Land's End - all I know is $$$$

Riviera - beautiful place, great food, been to several weddings there, reasonable prices especially for a Monday or Sunday wedding.

Sunset Harbour - the food is excellent; not as fancy as some of the other halls on your list but beautiful nonetheless; VERY reasonable prices.

Thatched Cottage & Watermill -- have heard nothing but good things but have no idea on $$$

If you're looking for on the water also checkout:

Crescent Beach Club, Bayville $$$$
Chateau La Mer, Lindenhurst $$
John Anthony's on the Water $$

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

Thanks Jimmys Bride, I am hoping to see a few places this week, I am going to look and look, as you have all advised. Also insist on a tasting.

Don't be disappointed wed2jlo, a lot of places won't allow for a tasting...

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

Why? I thought the food thing was the make or break for signing a contract--why would't they let you try it first?

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

Alot of places claim they don't 'do' tastings, but you have to insist. They will usually come around in one way or another. Don't book a place that doesn't let you taste their food. It's just not right. Some places make you book first, then you can taste. If they say you have to leave a deposit first, say okay, but make them write in your contract that your deposit if 100% refundable if you don't like the food and that you are under no further obligation.

Wheww....I was getting nervous I would never book a place without knowing the food quality, let alone just seeing the presentation. I heard Lands End does only a group tasting, what about the others?

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

I was also looking for a water place - we are getting married at Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst - place is gorgeous, they have been doing major renovations, they have tastings every other Wed night and they price was great.
We were also looking at Harbor Club and JA's - loved Harbor Club but a little out of our price range and we really like JA - until one of the banquet managers suddenly turned nasty on us! So I took that as a warning!!
I found out afterwards that they both (HC and JA) filed for bankruptcy and all this stuff - so I am very happy with our decision for La Mer. FM me if you want for more info!

John Anthony's filed for Chapter 11 but they are still in business and booking affairs.

Should I still go see them? What guarentees are they giving their brides?

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

I am a Sunset Harbour bride. I have to agree that the hall itself is not as spectacular as the rest, but the food is amazing, and the people there are sooo wonderful.. And the place itself is elegant... I just fell in love with it.

My second choice was the Riviera. I just could not afford it.

Have fun..

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

The owner of JA and Harbor Club died and the children don't want them so they declared CH11 and are selling them. Harbor Club was already bought by some big corportaion and they only have to honor contracts signed before then to how they are now. Which means anything you sign up for now might take place during a renovation or another sale, etc.. Last I heard, JAs was not bought yet and Scotto Bros had put a bid in on it, but that was a couple months ago. Same goes for them. (Got the info from catering halls)

I would recommend Chateau La Mer and Riviera. Both do tastings and are very reasonably priced.

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

Thanks Nicole, I know the Chateau le Mer is beautiful with the yacht they have too. I will keep it in mind, but our church is going to be some where in Eastern Suffolk. This Harbor Club/JA thing has got me buggers, should I ask them qustions if I still go to see them about the sale?

Re: Where to have a wedding.....

We were very interested in the Harbor Club, but after hearing all the news, we decided it wasn't worth the headache of trying to make it work. It never hurts to ask questions...I don't know what kind of answers you'll get. Having th church so far away doesn't have to be so bad. Leave a nice gap inbetween ceremony and reception so guests have plenty of time to make the commute and take pictures somewhere along the way like the Holtsville Ecology Center or Argyle park, both free. Good Luck!

I don't know about the price range but look at Giorgios. My friend had her wedding there and it is pretty. (Its out in Baiting Hollow)
