so my fiance and i are currently living with my parents and commuting to the city for work. the commute and living situation are killing us and we were wondering if you girls had any suggestions for good places to look. we're in bay shore right now, so anything closer to the city would be WORNDERFUL. we're thinking about 1/2 hour closer and on a major lirr stop. any suggestions?
tia!

Re: where to live - apartments
Bellmore/merrick/Wantagh: About 1/2 hour from BayShore(if there's traffic) and it take about an hour to get to Penn on the lIRR

heh - it looks like my fh is going to have a better commute than i do if we move. he works in chelsea and i work in brooklyn (5 minute walk from flatbush lirr).
what about MTA trains, which one is by your job?
uh.... J, G, A, D, N, 2, 3... there are others, but i don't take them all... i mean, there will be no problem getting there since it's commuting central (or so it feels), but if fh can jump on the lirr and be to work in 1/2 hour, it'll probably take me a little longer by subway.
well its not that bad actually...In astoria its the 'N' train but to brooklyn it would take long so i would say it would be better off to take the N train to 42nd street(about 20 mins) and then take the 2 or 3 there. Or you can take N to 34th street and take the A from there. OR if you move by the LIRR just take the lirr to penn station and over there you can take the A, 2 or 3...would you ever consider driving there? from astoria its pretty close to brooklyn, the bqe is in astoria and its a few mins to brooklyn.
i would drive, but there's no parking around my school. originally we were thinking about living around jamaica and then we could both hop on the lirr, but i like other areas better.

kew gardens and forest hills both have the LIRR and its closer to the city than jamaica, by a few minutes but still closer to the city.

yeah, but then i'd have to back track to change at jamaica and hop a train to flatbush... =0\
