Where were you on this day 4 years ago?

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but just like the JFK shooting of our parents generation, 9/11 is one of those things where you always remember where you were that day when you heard the news.

At work with my supervisor who lost her best friend in the towers. It was the saddest day.

I was just talking about this today with my friend.
I was going to pick up my sisters car before school, to bring it to my boyfriend at the time house, to get detailed. ( He did detailing on the side). My sister was watching the news, and at that time, only one plane hit and no one knew what happened. I remember driving to school and listing to Howard Stern.
That is when I heard it was a terroist attack. I got so nervous and felt like crying.

My BF was in the National Guard and he got a call to get dressed and go to armory, they were on call to go to the city to help.

It was such a horrible day in our history, and I will remember it forever.

I'll answer my own question...I was on the 4 train at Wall St. enroute to my office on 57th and Lex. The subway doors suddenly opened and closed about 3 times without explanation. When I got off the train, I heard people talking about it. By the time I got in my office, we found out what happened.

Funny thing is, I was on the train because I had just missed my express bus that morning. I guess it was fate, because had I caught it, I would have been just coming out of the Battery Tunnel when the 1st plane hit.

ETA:
Ironically, it was the first time I was the first one in my family to find out something, because I was the only one who worked in the city. When I called my family to let them know I was ok, they had no clue what I was talking about until I told them to turn on the TV. (Stupid me left my cell phone home that morning) I got lucky getting home....I walked down to Canal St and saw some of the devastation and ran into an old neighbor who told me the trains were running, so I managed to catch the train home.

I was on an Express Bus coming out of the battery tunnel when the first plane hit. I worked about 4 blocks from there. When I got off I saw the BIG black hole in the building. FH was up the block from the towers when the first plane hit...he saw some pretty disturbing things. It was a VERY sad and scary day...I've lost a few friends that day

When watching the Television and seeing those images again makes it seems as though that day was yesterday....it definitely does not feel like 4 years have gone by.

I was in law school and working in mid-town as a judicial clerk a few days a week. I had that particular day off and I was standing by the water in Long Beach staring at the big black cloud over the city and trying to call my parents in Florida on my cell phone to tell them I was OK and not in the city that day.

at home just about heading to get my nails done because it was my late day. FI ran home to get something for work and told me to turn on the TV and there it was. I then started calling everyone I knew who worked there. My cousin who had not been on LI since she was 12 (and was then 33) was finally here visiting with her family and were on a train headed into the city that day. THANKFULLY they were turned around before they got there but it took me forever to get in touch with them. Today is also technically my parents wedding anniversary even though my dad passed away last year.

I was at work when my friend came down and said one of the towers was hit. I was thinking it was probably an accident until she told us about the second one. Then I remembered how we used to circle around Manhattan when I flew in from college because the airports were busy. Sure the towers were high but not that high to be an accident. I could see the smoke from our school in Crown Heights and hoping that my brother was safe because he works in the NYSE.

Here in California, in my car on my way to work. It was the first week of school and I was so excited to get back that I rushed out without putting on the news. When I got in the car, the first thing I heard was screaming in the background and this quote...

'New York as we know it is gone...'- I had no idea what occured, the newscaster on the radio was hysterical and I thought I lost my whole family and friends. I have never been so terrified in my life and almost crashed my car into a pole. I didn't find out what had occured until I called my boss at home and asked her to put on the news. Then came the process of trying to reach loved ones, like my sister who worked near the towers. Then I was expected to calm a whole school filled with kids thinking they were going to die as I carried around my cell phone waiting for any word from my family. I will never want to relive that day again. I can't imagine what it was like to be in NY.

I was actually in a CPR class for my job that morning.... at the American Red Cross near Lincoln Center.

I kid u not... we were in that class less than 15mins... and some came in to the instructor and told him that a plance 'crashed' into one of the towers.... so we continued and then when the 2nd one 'crashed' that's when the ARC knew something was serious...

So we had to leave..... OMG traffic goin uptown was crazy.... I was trying to make a ohone call to anyone. That's why I heard some say at the booth next to me that the towers had fell.

I am a Brooklyn girl so I had to make my way downtown NYC..(14th street & 7th was furthes I got on the bus) and after that it was walk, walk walk!!!!

I was on my way to work in the city. While on the train I overheard a man say to the person on the other end 'What do you mean a plane hit a building??' I walked to work (Chrysler Building) and everyone was outside. They told us to go home. I went to Penn Station and got on a train headed back to New Hyde Park at 10:30 and then we were told that Penn Station was closing and we had to leave. I waited outside Penn from 10:30-2:30 that day. I didnt really get to see what was going on until 5:00 that night when I FINALLY got home. I was in total shock by everything. I was soooo scared waiting in front of Penn Station, not knowing what was really going on. It was the saddest and scariest days of my life.

I'm also a Brooklyn girl and had no choice but to walk over the bridge...I walked from downtown where I used to work to Dyker Heights in Brooklyn which is quite a hike.

Former Brooklyn girl here too...I got lucky to catch the trains running again, however briefly to Kings Highway where I caught my bus and went straight to my parents house to hug them.

I was supposed to catch the BM1 bus that day.

In the city... Hysterical. Watching the buildings fall out of my window... I wored on the 42nd floor of a building midtown and saw everything.

1 of the worst days of my life, and I am sure a lot of other peoples too.
