Which are the most upscale Photographers?

Original post by marymoon

If money is no object, who are the BEST wedding photographers? Who would you say are just the tip of the top, best shooting, best printing, etc etc.

You made a great choice with Willi!!!

oh yeah, and I saw a bunch of specials on MagRack featuring -- you!! lol.....I feel like I went with you every step of the way after seeing all the shows LOL....

BTW I like the way Nelson D'Leons (sister?) did your updo' - they made a little hole to put the veil in...I actually took a picture of the TV screen in case I wanted to do something like that - very creative!!!!

I'm using B rett M atthews, and I am very picky about photo quality. Also, their sample albums were in such great shape that I would be happy if mine came out like that. Most places (even comparably expensive ones) had sample albums that were half falling apart.

how much is willi wong? has anyone used them? and does anyone have any pics they can show? thanx...

Willi's packages are on his website at...
http://www.williwongphotography.com/price_services.htm

He was absolutely fabulous. We booked him without albums (to save money during the crazy wedding time when we were constantly writing checks). I figure sometime this summer, after we save a bit, we'll work on our albums. If you want any more info, just fm with me and I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Here are some of our pics...

Your pics are gorgeous!!!!! what a fabulous job!!!

LOL - the show is in syndication again i was told. Can you believe that I still haven't seen some of the episodes? I think I sound so goofy in some parts

The way she put the veil in was great because I was able to remove it after the first dance without a hassle -- I couldn't wait to take my veil off!

Thanks eveyone for the compliments on the pics

magrack is an on-demand cable feature in long island and some other areas (not queens). Basically, they do all these how-to shows and documentaries etc. Last year, I did this show with them called Inside Weddings (along with anotehr bride) where we went to different vendors with Carley Roney from teh knot. It was these informational 15 minute episodes -- I ended up going to Kleinfelds (bridal gowns), , Thread (bm dresses), Alpine Creative Group (invitations), Sarah Merians (photography), and Chef and company (catering). I don't know how helpful it is for future brides -- but it was soo nervewracking to film!

According to the website, WIlli Wong is film.

Film is better than digital in that it gives you more depth and richness of color and doens't give you the halos and pixelation that digi can give you. Only prints from the most edxpensive digicams cna be blown up. I've heard of brides who had 11X14's come out pixelated. An 11X14 is fine for 35mm film, and the negative wedding photographers use is much larger and can create much larger prints. Digital cameras that are coming out now (I read photo journals monthly) are just starting to rival 35mm prints (although I feel they never will), and don't even come close to the medium and large format fi;m most professional photographers use.

Willi is currently film, but we met with him and he is really trying to make the move over to digital. He showed us some weddings that he's done in digital. All his work is great, but he seemed to be really into moving over to digital and we really wanted film. He's an awesome guy though and definitely worth meeting with

What made you chose Perceptions over WW? Just curious!

I love Willi, don't get me wrong, but when I was looking at the photos in his studio, there were a lot that were just okay and only some that I thought were really great. Some pictures I thought were a little more artsy than I wanted. Anthony has a similar style but when I looked at the proofs for a few of his weddings (actual proofs and not pics in albums), they were ALL amazing. I think it's a matter of preference. I wanted photojournalistic but not TOO photojournalistic, which Willi was to me. It also might have to do with the fact that I trekked up to his 4th floor walk-up in a cast during the summer, who knows?

ETA: The digital vs. film thing was also huge for us. We REALLY preferred film (a reason we didn't go with Creative Compositions).

Re: Which are the most upscale Photographers?

Thanks so much for that insight. I think I have an appt with creative compositions next week. I ddin't know they were digital. I absolutely MUST have film. They say digital is new, it's improving, blah blah. But it does NOT have the richness of fi;m and even the newest and most expensive cameras are only even beginning to approach 35mm film. Down with digital!

Digital gives a lot of detail (Willi actually showed us the same pic, one taken with digital, one taken with film, to show us the difference) but I just like the softness that film gives. I know that am470 used Creative Comp and her pictures were amazing. So were butterfly91804s (totally made me rethink Willi!!! Like I said, I think it's just a matter of preference (but I'm glad to have another 'film' girl).

ETA: If you're willing to take a trip into NYC, you might want to check out Bill Fredericks as well, Gabrielle's work in particular is very good. I'm pretty sure they they are all film.

It's the richness. It's like the difference between vinyl and cd's
