Ok, my grandmother insists that the proper way to send out my wedding invitation is to send it out before I send out my shower invitation...that way the guest will know theres a shower coming up...has anyone done this?
My wedding is in Sept and my shower is in july that means I need to send my wedding invites out in may / june and send my shower invited in june...would it look weird if the invites are received back to back? is may too early to send out my wedding invites? sorry for the confusion (if any)

Re: Which invite goes out first?
Your invite should never go out more than 3 months before the wedding.

Re: Which invite goes out first?
It would be strange to send your invitations out that early. Usually no more than 3 months prior to the actual date. Have you thought about pushing back the shower? Usually the bridal shower is one month before the wedding.

Re: Which invite goes out first?
Thats what i told her, I told her I shouldn't send it out more then 3 months prior to the wedding, now that i heard from you girls I am doing it my way lol...sorry granny!
I wanted it in July because I know August is going to be too chaotic, I'm getting married early sept. Also, my MOH (my sister) lives in vegas so July works out better for her as well.
Thank you!!

Re: Which invite goes out first?
I don't think it matters if the shower invites go out first. I would send out the invites 2-3 mths before the wedding. I think anything before that might be too soon especially if it's not for out of town guest.
I think I'm going to send mine out in September for my November wedding.

You are not supposed to know about your shower, so how can your wedding invites go out before ?
Wedding invites no more than 3 months prior to the wedding date, shower invites as determined by the host.

Re: Which invite goes out first?
def dont send your wedding invite sooner than your shower...
i personally dont agree with the 3 month rule...i have a lot of out of town guests, and since my wedding is on the saturday before easter - i will be sending out my invites 4-5 months prior to the wedding...with an RSVP date of 2 months before the wedding...we are having 200 guests - and i am doing a lot of DIYs - so I have to know early - i think it all depends on the circumstances surrounding the wedding...

If you send out Save the Date cards, then people will already know that your wedding is coming up

Showers do not have to be a surprise, it's a preference.. I know about my shower, but my mother and BM's are throwing it in honor of me.
You're in a sticky situation b/c your shower is 2 months away from your wedding, so it kinda puts you in a sticky situation. I say start having your friends and family spread the word of the date of your shower by mouth, just to keep everyone on the loop, then send out your wedding invtiation on the 3rd week of June (since you said your weddig is the beginning of September)...one week later send out the shower invites.

this is probably b/c you shouldn't (according to etiquette rules) invite to the shower those that have not been invited to the wedding. i don't think it matters as long as you don't fly afoul of the above.

Re: Which invite goes out first?
My shower invites were sent out before my wedding invites & I didn't have any problems. I think since a shower comes before a wedding, the shower invitation should arrive to someone first.

Re: Which invite goes out first?
personally i do NOT agree at all...invitations to your wedding should not be going out that soon before...JMO
***ETA: If it happens to work out that way like yo have to mail out wedding invites first, then i can see doing that, but not that it is the 'proper' way to do it

Re: Which invite goes out first?
Yeah - I never heard of that either! Just send out your invitations as planned....2 months before the wedding!
PS - My shower is not a surprise! I am a control freak! Plus my sister and I both live out of town so we needed to plan accordingly!
