I found a dress that I really like and in the store they have it in Diamond white (ivory). I can order it in white, but I have no idea what that looks like. The woman at the store said that most brides now a days are wearing ivory anyway...just curious if this is true.

Re: White or Ivory
Depends what looks best with your skin tone, I would ask to see the same fabric in white on another dress, hold them up, and make a choice, I prefer Ivory, but its your choice!

It should depend on what looks better on you - not what other brides are doing!

Re: White or Ivory
Well, I am quite pale so I think I probably dont look good in white....But then what about the flowers...I was thinking white roses...will that clash...How white are white roses?
my dress is diamond white im so pale..it looked MUCH better in gold beading and diamond white dress rather than silver beading and white..it washed me out in white

Re: White or Ivory
mine is diamond white- but it is not ivory- cause they had an ivory in the gown too and it was much more 'ivory-ish' I didnt like nor did i look great in the pure white- too stark in my opinion

I agree. I think that maybe one of the reasons I like the dress in the first place. And diamond white doesnt seem to be as dark as ivory...I tried to compare in the store. So diamond white may be a nice compromise.
Thanks everyone.

Re: White or Ivory
I tried my dress on in ivory in one bridal salon, and then in white at another salon later that day. I loved the dress both times, but both my MOH and I agreed that something was off when I tried it the second time. It was the color. White just didn't look right. So I ordered the ivory.

I wore Ivory... I am very pale so white completely washed me out. Also, I got married in January and did not like the idea of wearing white and matching the snow (if there was any)

Re: White or Ivory
I had the same problem. Every dress I tried on that I liked was ivory or diamond white. In the end I decided to order it, it seemed to look better with my skin tone. White can be very harsh on some skins/hair color.
I agonized over it for awhile, but eventually just went with ivory. FI and FMIL actually told me w/o knowing that I would look better in an off-white dress...

Re: White or Ivory
My dress is ivory! Befroe going dress shopping I always thought of ivory as being yellowish, but it seems like its not yellowish at all, just a different shade of white. I also think that a dress maker that offers a few different shades will have a darker ivory than a designer that offers just 2 shades because all of the shades have to be different. I posted a thread on this when I was wondering the same thing....I'll try to pull it up for you.

I found the thread and bumped it! You can really see how subtle the ivory looks inthe pics...very soft
