Who 'brown bags' their lunch, and what do you bring?

I really need to start conserving funds, but I am the worst at thinking of things to bring for lunch!
I always end up with a turkey sandwich!

HELP!

i try to shake it up a bit! sometimes turkey, sometimes tuna with crackers, i make a salad and put a can of tuna in or, or just add tuna or chicken to those 'salad in a bag'. I also like to bring in Campbell's soup at hand. just pop it in the microwave. Yogurt is good too, sometimes i bring a box of raisins to throw in there.

Ohhh EriBerry - good ideas!!! thanks!

I just get so bored with a Turkey Sandwich that I give up and go back to the same old' buying my lunch in the city every day and it costs a FORTUNE!!!!

no problem!! I got tired of paying $7 for a turkey sandwich in the city! Its crazy. I always buy tuna, those precooked chicken strips, salad in a bag, soups and yogurts at the food store. Definitely saves on money and allows me not to eat the same thing everyday!! Good luck!

I bring lunch occasionally, sometimes its a sandwich (jazzed up with some olive paste, or some other 'unusual' but tasty dressing/cheese). Other times, it may be dinner food that I cooked the night before (we don't eat dinners, so it wouldn't be eating same thing twice in a row). Often its something simple, such as a chicken/tofu/veggie stir fry with some rice.

I no longer bring fruit for snacking, because paying $0.99/lb for apples, I can get the same thing at a street vendor for same price (50 cents per fruit, and usually a medium sized fruit will be close to half a pound).

When I do, I bring leftovers. Sometimes I'll bring a frozen veggie burger or 'chik' patty and make it at work (we have a cafeteria).

Pasta salad is always an easy one to make the night before...some many variations - from different veggies to add, different pastas to use (I like the tri-colored) and different dressings to add.

Especially now with the cold weather I bring a can of soup. Something hearty like New Engalnd Chowder or Minestrone. I also bring some crackers and a piece of fruit this way I'm not starving.

I also bring leftovers from home.

PB&J sandwiches are always good. My husband loves them so that's what he usually brings for lunch.

I am trying to do this more often (not working, lol) but I succeeded today. i fried some chicken cutlets last night and I will heat them up today and make a sandwich.

I mostly bring left overs. This week I made a whole chicken, so it's been chicken on wheat. Sometimes I make tuna, or just bring soup.

I too am guilty of buying... I try to make tuna salad- but how many times can you bring that? I also hate bringing salads because they are never as good as when you buy it @ the store.

sometimes I bring leftovers- but honestly I have not been cooking lately b/c school has been LOCO!!!

Maybe this weekend I will make meatballs... a meatball sandwhich is ALWAYS a good lunch!

Another good idea is to cook extra chicken breasts, london broil, or any other type of meat.. then when I get ready to pack it up, I put it over a layer of frozen spinach of green beans- that way when I heat it up the frozen veggies cook & get flavor from the meat.. it's pretty good.. and not a lot of carbs.

Well, I'm trying to combat the whole sandwich boredom by trying to cook dinner more and bringing leftovers. Like last night, I made chicken enchilladas, and today I brought some leftovers!! Of course this won't work if you don't like eating the same thing twice.
But it's a big hurdle for me cooking dinner so I figure it will help me with the whole bringing lunch to work deal, too.

Starhead - this is the thing....the reason that's its so hard for me is b/c I DON'T cook dinner....hardly EVER.

DH get's up at 2:30am for work, so by dinnertime he has already eaten and is sleeping by the time I get home. When I get home from the gym, the last thing I feel like doing is cooking for myself...So I just cook an egg white with toast or something....

If I could eat leftovers, that would be great.....problem is, there is nothing to have leftovers from...lol

Wow, So many great Idea! I need to put them to good use!

One thing I do like to do is bring fruit with me, fresh and dried! Makes for a great snack! Otherwise, i end up hitting the vending mashing and there is nothing there but junk food!

Sage, believe me, I rarely cook dinner, but I'm trying to more often. I don't even like to cook! But it just depressed me when I saw how much I was spending on lunch (i'm in the city, too). DH is rarely home for dinner so that makes it tough, too. I do bring WW frozen stuff, too, it's cheaper than lunch in NYC and you can have somewhat of a variety.

I work from home now so lunch is a bit easier for me most days. Maybe once or twice a month I run to the deli to get something though- just for a change.

But I make DH lunch almost everyday. He does have 'eat lunch out' days when I am really tired and don't want to get out of bed to make lunch- maybe 3-4X a month. But we all need those days anyway.

Mostly he loves pastrami or salsalito turkey sandwhiches. I also always make enough dinner for a left over lunch for him. I even try to make extra veggies for his lunch so I know he is eating healthy. He also gets a piece of fruit, cookies or other type of fun treat and an applesauce or yogurt plus his soda. I hate spending $1.00 on a can of soda when I can get 12 can cases for $3.00ish. So he sorta gets a kid's lunchbox meal And I put little notes in his lunch that say I love him.

In regards to not making dinners: If you cook a few things on Sunday and Wednesday I find that it really helps out. You can also make 2 meatloaves just as easily as 1- so freeze one for another time. stuff like that really helps.
