Who has exceeded their budget?

Original post by Mrs. dleeny

so far... FH and I are slightly above what we set out to spend on the wedding. I'm sure it will keep growing!

Re: Who has exceeded their budget?

we went up slightly (meaning a $100 bucks or so) in a couple of areas. We have a total amount that we want to spend and I have been going through my spreadsheet to see where I can cut corners.

Right now, like most, I'm trying to weed out invitations and see if I can do them cheaper.

What's a budget?

We're spending more than we would like, but we never set an official budget when we started out planning, we set out looking for the best prices for the best service.

Yeah, I'm already over, but I'm trying to cut back on certain things. I think I don't need limos (getting ready at the bridal suite and the hotel we're all staying at provides a shuttle bus to and from). Menu's and Invites I think I can do myself with the creativity of my SIL. Favors and Bridal Party gifts don't have to be extravagant. I'm spenidng most of my money on the hall, photog, flowers, DJ. Oh, and I have to get a dress but I can't go overboard with that either.

Actually, I have a very extensive spreadsheet of everything that has to be paid for for the wedding, and I think we will be okay. But, there are a lot of things that are on the sheet that I haven't bought yet, so I don't know how much I am paying for them. I think we'll be okay if I keep the cost of invitations and favors low.

I am VERY jealous!!!

Oh, I guess I also have to add one more condition: we'll be okay provided that we have 140 guests...and we invited 180

That's our problem. We expected around 125 when we booked our hall but we're going to have around 160.

we never set one - not because of infinite resources but because i knew whatever i came up with would be unrealistic and i'd beat myself up over going over budget. so we're just trying very hard to be reasonable every step of the way. and now that the most expensive things were decided - band, hall, photographer - i think we'll end up spending a total we both feel comfortable with.

Yup!
And we only have the hall, photographers & dress done.

Us too....we are Excel fanatics. If its not on the 'budget' I have no idea how I can pay for it. But we've had to increase our budget by $4000 to afford things we didnt think we'd spend so much on. So we are pretty much living on Raman noodles and cereal. LMAO

I can beat ya, I have excel and word files we are a little over budget at this point, biut we are okay with it, we have enough to cover what we are repsonsible for.

Re: Who has exceeded their budget?

Even with Excel spreadsheets and constant tracking of our budget on theknot.com's budgeter (which I lived on and love, BTW) we came out spending more than we originally budgeted for. I haggled prices on everything and really took care of finding the lowest price for the best service since DH and I paid for the wedding on our own but quality costs and I wasn't going to budge on that. In the end it was all worth it...and I still think we spent a lot less than what some people spend on their weddings and it was up to our 'standards' for the most part.

So to answer your question...we exceeded our budget by $12K - but it was worth every penny!

ETA: I think I should say that I grossly miscalculated my intial budget. No way could I have kept anything in the $20K's when my rings, HM and clothes were part of the entire budget.

We are on target so far. Lets hope it stays that way.

I honestly...don't think we even set a budget...

God only knows what we were thinking!

We had a semi-budget as we booked vendors of how much we would be willing to spend but that went all out the window when we booked out band & our photographer/videographer.

Actually, I have word files too, with lists of photos we have to ask the photographer to take, crafts I have to make, and any other stuff we need to remember.

Re: Who has exceeded their budget?

we have a spreadsheet as well and are sticking pretty close to what we budgeted. how we'll actually get the money we budgeted for, that's another question
