Who here is in Grad school?

I will be starting in September. Probably in Stony Brook University. I just completed my first year teaching and I was too stressed during the school year to take classes...how about you?

This will be my last year of Grad school! I'm so freakin' happy...I'll be getting my Masters and tenure at the same time! I'll complete the program in 3 years instead of the 5 they give..YAY!!

What program are u in that it typically takes 5 years to complete? I only have 3 years to complete mine or i lose my teaching certification

What do you teach?

High School English. They can give me anything from 7th grade Enrichment to 12 Advanced!

So far I've taught 7th grade, 7th grade enrichment, 8th grade, 9th/10th grade Regents Prep and 11th grade.

That was changed back to 5 years shortly after NYS changed it to 3...unless you are dealing with a different sort of teaching certificate

They changed the amount of time a while ago....3 years is nearly impossible for those working full-time...I'm doing it because of the summer classes I take and doubling up in the fall and spring (most people do one a semester with a full-time teaching career and coaching).

oh yeahhh thats right! I forgot it was changed, fh and i have been both taking 2 classes a semester and summer classes so weve been able to get it done somewhat quickly but its def not an easy thing! haha i cant wait till its over!! thats awesome that u want to possibly get a second masters! I think after this im done for a good while LOL

Well, I want that pay level! lol We get increases at Masters, Masters +15, +30, +45 and +60..the highest is a Doc. So, why not go for some more classes and get paid tons of $$ more?? That's the way I look at it. Also, to take 45-60 random classes, I'd have to go through so much authorization through my district for the OK to take each class, that it wouldn't be worth my time! lol
