Who is paying for what for your weddings? In these days of non tradition and high cost for weddings how is everyone doing it? What is your wedding going to cost you? How did you start your realistic budgets? Thanks

Re: Who is paying ?
We are paying for most of our wedding. Our parents chipped in for a few things, but we are paying the bulk of it.

Re: Who is paying ?
My Mom is paying 25%, his parents are paying 12%, and we are covering the rest.
Question - for couples who are paying all or a portion themselves - are you and your fiance splitting it 50/50? My fiance and I are splitting the cost 50/50, but he makes 3 times the amount I do - I am wondering how other couples deal with this issue. Thanks!

Re: Who is paying ?
We live together already so our money is already pooled. We have been putting $$ into a wedding acccount for about a year now.
Provided you are pooling your funds after the wedding, why keep track of who pays for what right before?

Re: Who is paying ?
We are paying for 75% of the wedding and my mother 'advanced' her gift to us which covers 25%.
We have been putting pretty much equal amounts into a wedding fund which will become our regular joint account/operating account after the wedding. Any extra or 'found' money is also deposited into this account.

Re: Who is paying ?
All in all, it works out that my parents paid half and we paid the other half! As far as who contributed more between my FH and me - it's about equal! We pool our money together and I don't keep track of that - he always says, it doesn't matter - it comes from the same pot anyway!

Re: Who is paying ?
We are paying for both our wedding and honeymoon. My sister gave me a shower and bought my dress as her gifts to me. My 2 FSIL payed for flower girl dresses, but got them for $30 in Macy's! My mother passed away, and my father cannot contribute. My FH's parents offered, but we didn't take anything from them. So, they offered to take my immediate family out to dinner the night before so that they can meet before the wedding. For us, who ever pays has control, and we both want what we want and others don't really have a say in who gets invited, what the flowers look like, etc. We have been living together for 3 years and have had the same bank accounts for 2 years, so everything is 'ours'.
The way we started our realistic budget was to decide who we really want at our wedding. This was major, because our guest list was only 84 people. Then, we went with finding things that are simple, yet elegant, but not extravagant. We also continued to put savings aside every month just as we were doing before we were engaged.

Re: Who is paying ?
We paid for EVERYTHING ourselves, with the exception of the attire for the bridal party.
my parents are paying for about 40%...the rest -a big chuck e-ring and honeymoon came from FH...I am doing the rest.
We are living together, but have not officially pooled our money out of 1. laziness and 2. we both have direct deposit and need to figure out when we can stop those and start paying bills with the new account (hopefully we will do that this weekend)
I know wedding expenses can seem so expensive, but I like to look at it as a percentage of our annual salary...the WHOLE thing is about 35% of our annual salary...when I look at it that way, it doesn't seem as bad

Re: Who is paying ?
We are paying for everything 100% wow what surprise to see so many of us paying. Here I was thinking I was in the minority, not having the mom and the dad with the means to help. Once we got engaged we opened a wedding fund a/c and we have been pooling our funds into that a/c.
Happy planning all

Who is paying?
When I calculate the percentage of our annual income it comes out to 30%. I guess that sounds a bit better.
I could just cry sometimes when I see people in other parts of the country that have extavagant affairs with tons of people for what we pay in LI for just the caterer.

Re: Who is paying ?
Both parents are paying for their guests at the reception. My FIs parents have a little over 100 guests and my parents have only about 30. Both parents are covering there guests for the receptions and my parents are giving me extra towards other stuff and covering my guests at the reception as well. THe rest we are paying for ourselves. I think it works out to where we are paying for about half of the total cost.

Re: Who is paying ?
Jeanene- If you are putting the same amount into the bank, but he makes 3X what you do something is not right. Many financial experts say that you should both put the same percentage of your income into the account, and that is fair. Unless you are not paying rent and he is. Then you have more disposable income. Have you discussed after wedding fiances and saving for a home?
We are paying for everything except my gown/veil/headpiece (my Dad and stepmom) and my harpist (my Mom). My brother and sister are giving us our RD as a wedding gift.
My parents had to pay for any of their friends that they wanted to invite, or any extended family that was not on my guest list (about 19 people).
