Who paid for your shower?

Original post by bostoninLI

This isn't a concern about my own shower, but I am a bridesmaid in another wedding (1 month before my wedding) and I know her MOH (her sister) is going to ask us to pay for the shower. Mine is being paid for by my FMIL and I've never been part of a wedding where the bridesmaids pay for the shower. Is this a reasonable bridesmaid responsibility?

The shower is traditionally paid for by the bridesmaids and MOH. It is traditionally considered poor form for relatives of the bride to host a shower (i.e. mother, sisters) because it's like, 'asking for presents.'

That being said, I think that since showers have become much more elaborate than in the past (most showers were casual affairs at someone's home, but now people generally have them at restaurants or halls), it's much more common and certainly socially acceptable for the mother of the bride to pay for the shower.

I would get together with the other bridesmaids and determine what you can afford to do. If the MOB offers to pay for it, great. If not, at least you will be on the same page with the other BMs in terms of how much you're going to spend.

I didn't have my shoer yet but I know my parents will be paying for it.

all of the weddings that I have been in and will be in have been paid for mainly by the bridesmaids and MOH. However, in many of the weddings I've been in the MOB and FMIL also threw in some money as well.
