The guest (whats his name.????) said Bill isnt From Levittown he's from Westbury. And then Jay goes but he says hes form Levittown which is a poor neighborhood

I think we don't hear about most crime anyway. There's more cime in the hamptons than anywhere...jsta different kind. There might be what you'd call lots of crime in my neighborhood. Several shootings, etc, but that's so rare.

I think he lived in HB, but his main club was in OZP.

Westbury isn't a bad town...New Cassel is bad. Thats were the school gets most of its students from.

Poor Levittown is getting a bad name for itself lately. I didn't grow up there, but I happened to watch a movie on it on IFC last year called 'Wonderland'...has anyone seen it??? They must have picked the most wacked out Levittown residents & did a documentary on them & the town itself, really made it look bad.
It's a shame, I have friends that live ther & their house was just completely redone & all the homes on their block are quite nice now.
But if you ever get a chance, check out that movie, it wacky!

I also grew up in Levittown and it's not a poor town. I don't know why so many people have bad imperssions of Levittown. I think I turned out just fine.

Everyones perception of a 'good' town and a 'bad' town is different. I think it has a lot to do with where you grew up...

I grew up in Levittown too, and I alwyas thought it was pretty nice. In college I remember a guy telling me Levittown was known as 'White Trash' and I was so confused. I mean, sure there were some 'interesting' people there (as there are EVERYWHERE), but as far as I could tell, it was really nice. Oh well.

Levittown is not poor! I wouldn't say it's rich like the Five Towns or the Hamptons but it isn't poor.

Lolita, I grew up in Central Islip too and my mom would always say that we lived in 'South Hauppauge'. One thing I wanted to mention though was that Central Islip has this wrap of being a bad time. But honestly, I don't remember it being that bad and I don't remember too many violet crimes or property crimes. I just did a search on the ratings of the town on reply.com and learned that on a scale of 1 to 10 and this is what I came up with.

Yes the money people make and the value of homes are lower than say St. James but overall I don't think its a bad town.

I feel that since the courts came into town and with the addition of the ducks the town is def. trying to improve.

I saw part of that movie- they interviewed Miss NY 1996 who graduated high school with me in 1990.

I have to say, I have always been bewildered by the negative comments about Levittown. I really had a lovely childhood there- we all were in Little League/Athletic Club and I loved walking to the pool in the summer. And FH and I, who both have advanced degrees, can hardly afford a house there.

I grew up in Massapequa which I always thought was a good town and still is but then when I met my husband from Mattituck he said they used to make fun of people from my town and surrounding towns in Nassau calling us mall chicks and guidos. Whatever- we called them hicks from the sticks! He still thinks my parents backyard is tiny and the houses are too close together. Everything is relative. The point is everyone has these stupid connotations about other towns. They dont mean anything. In general, I think all of LI is pretty decent. Obviously some richer parts, some poorer parts. But, as we all know its pretty hard to buy a house anywhere on LI right now.

I dated a guy from Levittown in college and he was a construction worker - I remember they had a very nice big house (it was off Hempstead Tpke near Tri County) but his area was more how shall I say 'blue collar' but FAR from poor.

I think Levittown got a bad rap in the 50s when Levitt built the houses that were all the same and thus I think cheaper to build.... plus you have Hempstead Tnpk in Levittown that used to be sort of seedy with all of the clubs- I dont know how it is now. I used to cruise the pike in that area in HS and there were lots of cheesey guys and girls with big hair and Cavaricchis - me included
