The guest (whats his name.????) said Bill isnt From Levittown he's from Westbury. And then Jay goes but he says hes form Levittown which is a poor neighborhood

Yes in the 1950's it was affordable housing for the men who in the WAR. Even thought I don't think it was cheap housing. Affordable yes. Poor NO.

My dad lived there then. I didn't think the rep came them. there are lotsof booksonit then, about how hisroicallyinportnat it was,e tc. I think he gota rep forhavign no character, but peopelhave modifiedthe houses a lot.

It is pretty bring, so thereare lots of differnt neighborhoods, but I'd say itis prtty represetnative of an average suburb anywhere in the country.

And for the Westbury thing, there is a really fancy part, with mansions you can't see & then there is a more working class area, with some run down areas, but it isn't awful.

i think there are parts of CI that have a lot of crime due to drugs, etc but then again that is everywhere and in places you would never even imagine!

i was always scared just to go to Jr High in CI. WHAT a difference when i got to hauppauge!! Night & DAy!. my grandma still lives in CI. her block is quiet... its still got some of the old residents.....

People in the media who are 'live' are at the disadvantage of not being able to take back what they say .. and it can obviously be very easy to say the wrong thing that someone is going to find offensive, while the greater majority of the people just let it go in one ear and right out the other with a mindless laugh.

If Leno's comments were so offensive, you should drop him an email, or call the station, or his show.

I didn't see his show, so I have no idea exactly what he said, and the manner it was spoken .. but I do know lots of people, even on this site, like to put forth their opinions on towns as matter-of-fact .. when in fact they known little to nothing about the town, other than the reputation that town has established, regardless of how false it might actually be.

Levittown is no Hamptons .. but it certainly is a hard-working community .. and to some people, if a community has to work hard for their living .. it breeds a negative reaction, especially more likely from the well-to-do.

Not that anyone cares but, unless O'Reilly moved in the past few years, he doesn't live in Westbury or Levittown, he lives in Manhasset.

I don't really have any opinion on whether Levittown is a 'poor' town or not, but, as a North Shore girl, I can say that we have more virtues than just being 'snotty.' And, a comment like that is just the same as saying Levittown is a 'poor' town.

Yup lots out eats. Shoram Coram Shirley Mastic Beach Hempstead Roosevelt Uniondale..... I could go on.

FYI:I live in Shoreham and most of the houses are 500,000. As for the rest in Eastern Suffolk they are in pretty much the same price range (as a Levittown house that is)

Everyones perception of a 'good' town and a 'bad' town is different. I think it has a lot to do with where you grew up...

yes, it's all relative...

DH and i get into tifs all the time - towns i wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole he finds 'just fine' because they reflect how and where he grew up. i personally would get a smaller home in a better neighborhood than more house in a less desirable neighborhood, he just thinks 'bigger is better'

I didn't see the show, but I'm guessing that they were making a point that O'Reilly came from humble beginnings. He lives in Manhasset now, but he didn't start out there...

You're right.. most of the houses in Shoreham these days are very expensive.

New Castle (a section of Westbury) is not great but for the most part Westbury is fine.

Wantagh is VERY nice has one of the best school districts on long island if the houses were so freakin expensive I would have bought my house there, ( 450 and up) so I came to Salisbury( 400 and up) which is the south side of westbury yes it has its own name in westbury you have salisbury, the birchwoods, old westbury and I know Im missing something, these areas are very nice- go across old country rd north and you hit new cassel and the rough edge of westbury. Every town has its good and bad just how communitys are. Levittown has its good and bad- the bad that everyone talks about is near gardners ave. people park there cars on their front lawn, thats where it got its 'whitetrash' from. I pass there everyday and people still do it. but otherwise Levittown is nice.

UM I live not to Far from Gardiners and I have never once seen a car parked on the grass, I goto the gym on Gardeners so I am there everyday.
