Why are city schools open today?

Just like the private schools are closed the same thing should have gone for the city schools. I know the private schools are not city owned but still....

Bloomberg is a heartless *******! DH is a teacher and he had to leave at 5:30 am while it was still snowing heavily and drive to school.... I feel bad for all teachers and the students that had to go to school today....thanks mayor... you may be smart when it comes to business but when it comes to common sense, you are a moron!

Well then don't read the post...teachers have very hard jobs! I worked in an office before I was a teacher...I didn't have to bring home work and work on the weekends....this post was about teachers

actually the post was bout getting to work when it is snowing and school being open
not about teaching per say

SERIOUSLY. An important job, yes - deserve respect, absolutely - at times frustrating & emothionally draining, yup ... but the absolute hardest ... nope.

I am sure I am going to get flamed for this- but what makes your DH different from any other person that has to get to work? My DH had to drive 30 miles to get to his job. It wasn't a suprise that it was snowing and that he had to get to work- but he went slow and he allowed extra time...

Thats why I edited...if you would have read it again...We do have very hard jobs...not as hard as police, firemen etc...but if you work in a bad city school you might as well be a police men...my FI has been attacked twice by students in Brooklyn

that staTement is insane...hmm cops..doctors..firefighters...ALL HARD JOBS!!! AND IT DOESNT END THERE!!!! any1 who remotely wakes up in the morning and busts there a** all day to bring home $$ to put food on the table has a hard job! dont whine and complain when you have off for 2 summer monthes...3 seperate vacation weeks..and get out at 3:00 everday!!!!!!!! obviously the take home work that u MAY have makes up for the fact that most pple work almost every month from 9-5 WITH ONLY 2 weeks vaca!!!! I think 'teachers' need to get off their high horse,

Seriously. Tough, yes, toughest, no. My cousin is an ER doctor and has to turn dying people away because they have no insurance...Has to live knowing she could have saved them, if only they had had the $...I know A LOT of teachers who went into it for the hours and the summers off. It's sad, but true. And the teachers I know working in the city are only doing it because they couldn't get jobs on LI and are paying their dues until they can get into an LI district.

this is why 'edit' should be banned.

Anyway, no one is doubting that it is a hard job. BUT you knew that going into it - no one made you be a teacher, right?

And, what in the world does that have to do with having to go to school when it's snowing?!?! Because you have it tough you should get even more days off?? Sorry, don't get the logic in that.
