Just like the private schools are closed the same thing should have gone for the city schools. I know the private schools are not city owned but still....
Bloomberg is a heartless *******! DH is a teacher and he had to leave at 5:30 am while it was still snowing heavily and drive to school.... I feel bad for all teachers and the students that had to go to school today....thanks mayor... you may be smart when it comes to business but when it comes to common sense, you are a moron!

Re: Why are city schools open today?
OK, so if an annual teaching salary for a district on LI is $50,000, the teacher doesn't really make that, but 10/12 that, since they are only working 10 months? Trying to understand...I know some of my friends receive pay checks only 10 mos. of the year, but I assumed that was just a greater amount then for the 10 months rather than spread over 12. That does leave it up to the individual to do the budgeting.

you would get paid the amount - but it would be spread out over 10 months.....that's the salary....
the first school i was in, i got more money weekly becuase we were paid 10 months.... the school i'm in now, i get less money weekly, because it's spread out over 12 months...

you can choose if you want to get paid year round. i do so that i don't have to freak out over the summer. some people choose to have slightly larger checks over the year but don't get paid in the summer. in this case, you need to be a budgeter extraordinaire!!!

Lori, The first time was at applebees. I was with mike and his parents. The host was like 'how many 3 adults and one child' Mike doubled over and his mother was like 'child who is a child' THEN I went to friendly's with Mike and April (the one who came with me to the GTG) and the lady didn't even ask she just put a childs menu (complete with placemat and crayons) in front of me. I was like COME ON!

Re: Why are city schools open today?
WELL the kids cup I could deal with since I am a klutz and I spill EVERYTHING! BUT I stood there saying but im 24 NOT 12. You have to be 12 to eat off the childrens menu. And then theres Mike saying SHHHH your cheaper then.
I get id for the movies. I went to cash in my 1.00 winning scratch off ticked and the lady was all snotty 'are you even 18' I was all 'im 23' she id for 1.00.
Drinking thats always fun to. Lori lets go out sometime.

Remember something else, we don't get corporate Christmas bonuses either.

We don't get real maternity leave either.
