Why not? I think the ablility to bring a life into this world is an incredible gift, why not take advantage of it.

I was joking.

I may have children. I am undecided, hence the curiosity.

Sadly those are the ones who usually have the boatload of kids.

I hear some people have this compulsion to do it. I am guessing this is how our species survives.

Thats like asking why do people get married or why are two people together in a relationship...you have kids to procreate, to expand your family, raise them and pass on your life to them.

ETA: There is nothing wrong with not wanting to have children either. I know a married couple who have been married for 10 years (they're in their early 30s) and refuse to have kids. When I asked them why, they reasons were purely selfish and they admitted that.

yeah, each person has his or her own personal reason for doing it. that is where my curiosity lies.

this issue has been on my mind a lot.

You know, I almost posted this thread to LIF in the last week. But I figured there was no way to do it without someone jumping down my throat and calling me a baby-hater. So I refrained.

We are not planning on having children. And are crucified for it frequently.

It's weird because we're NOT having children but no one says anything to us. DMC said it's because they're afraid of me

It's mostly my in laws. Rusty is an only child. I understand where they're coming from but I think 8 years together is enough time to make an informed decision.

My co-worker cites those reason as to why him and his girlfriend had a child.
