I totally understand what you are going through, I haven't had a relationship with my parents in 10 years and they chose not to be at our wedding. Surround yourself with positivity and people who love you. I brought my MOH who is practically my sister with me dress shopping. It was a bittersweet day becasue I never thought I would do that without my mother, but remember about all the love you have around you!

Yeah, I definitely don't want the day to be a memorial to my parents or a maudlin feeling in any kind of way, so I want to keep everything fun and happy and focused on the wonderful NEW life ahead. My FMIL actually wants to be with me to get ready, which is so nice. The planning, though, is where I am feeling it the most!! I feel like I don't know what I'm doing. Especially when everyone gives their *unsolicited* opinions. If my mother were here she would tell everyone to STFU. LOL.

My dad just passed away 5 weeks ago. Just getting back into planning after taking a break. My dad was so excited about the wedding. He was 82...had kids later in life and never thought he would be around when his daughters married. We talked alot about the wedding the past few months especially our father/daughter dance to Daddy's Little girl. Would it be weird to dance the song with my brothers? I definitely want to honor him in someway.

Not weird at all, I think it's very sweet to stick with the original song you'd picked together. So sorry for your loss.

My dad passed away in 2007.I am going to have my mom walk me down the aisle. I'm going to dance with her too for our parents dance, but something UP BEAT- Maybe crazy little thing called love, a favorite of hers :) Maybe there if you have an aunt or uncle you could dance with...keep in mind it doesn't have to be slow! it can be a happy moment!

So sorry to all of you. I was tearing up reading all of this too! It definitely makes me appreciate my parents more.My fiancé doesn't speak with his Mother, and we're not sure if she's even going to come to the wedding. But I think my fiancé is going to dance with his grandmother instead.
