Will any of you not have your parents at your wedding?
Mine are both passed away. My dad died this past winter and my mom died 7 years ago. We just got engaged over the summer and it kind of feels like the fun has been ****** out of the wedding planning. I have a lot of extended family and friends but it’s really not the same. I am also dreading the parent dance at the reception. I was at a wedding recently where I had to leave the table when the bride danced with her dad.Needless to say, while I am so happy to be engaged and planning a future with my fiancé there is definitely a sadness kind of hanging over this whole thing.
Is anyone else planning a wedding without your parents?

My dad passed away in 2010 ( i am having one of his best friends my 'uncle' walk me down the aisle) so I completely understand about the parent dances. Since then its always been hard for me to watch brides dance with their dads at weddings (i've had to leave the room a few times)I am thinking of dancing with my younger brother but I may just take that whole part out. If I do decide to dance with my brother we may end up doing something a little silly so people do not get upset.

My dad passed 7 years ago. My daughter will be walking me down the aisle and we're skipping the parent dances. I've had to leave the room a few times at other weddings, it's too much sometimes. FH isn't close with his mom, so we're just going to skip the parent dances and par-tay our butts off!

I'm so sorry for your losses
, I can't imagine how you must feel trying to let yourself be happy and excited for this day with that weighing in on you, but just know they will be there in spirit. I know it's not much of a consolation, but I'm sure they would want you to be happy and celebrate your day. Hugs.

So sorry for all of your losses ladies. I can somewhat relate. I have absolutely no relationship with my dad so needless to say he probably has no idea I am even getting married. Seeing other brides dance with their dads always upsets me but we will still have the parent dance because I know it means so much to my future mother in law, hopefully I can hold it together for her sake. But like ndc said try to take comfort in knowing that they would want you to be happy and enjoy your day.

I have not heard nor spoken to my mother in I would say 10 years. So when FH and I set a date, FMIL said she will buy me my dress. I was so taken back by that and it was really hard for me to keep it together when I did find my dress. So as far as parents go it will just be me and my father (and that will be my only familiy) at our wedding.

My mother passed away in 2010 and not having her around for this has been hard at times, especially when going dress shopping. I'm lucky I have a good relationship with my FMIL.My dad is still alive and while he is in my life, he has gone through some mental changes in the past decade (he's very much in his own world, doesn't follow social norms and kind of doesn't care, but not in a rude way. It's hard to describe.) He's just different now and I'm not sure how I feel about a father/daughter dance.
I personally am not a fan of organized dances like that, but then I'm probably seen as cold hearted if I don't do dances.

Will any of you not have your parents at your wedding?
My mom passed away in 2006 and my stepdad passed in 2010 but thankfully I still have my dad. My mom was my best friend so this whole planning process, I have cursed all of those sites with the MOB stuff, and the girls in the salons with their moms. I'm going to have yellow roses in my bouquets since they were my mom's fave and will leave an empty seat for her at the head table.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I know this is such a difficult time for you but I'm sure your parents are smiling down on you and would want you to enjoy the process of planning your wedding. My dad passed away December 2013, so I will be having my mom and brother walk me down the isle. I will also be dancing with my brother.

This! I am actually not really looking forward to dress shopping. Not because I want it to be a big event or anything, but I guess I always thought I would go with my mom. Now I'll go and I'll see other brides with their moms and I am just not into it. I might go myself and just get it over with.
It's such a weird time. It's very strange not having immediate family to share the process with (I have one sibling, and she does not live in this country.) Even just basic questions like 'should we invite Aunt/Cousin/Uncle so-and-so?', or 'Whats XYZ's address?', etc. is now hard. My mom would have the answer to these things. :(

I went dress shopping with my FMIL and my sister. I am lucky that I have a good relationship with my FMIL. On Saturday, I was very concerned that my oven was smoking a little bit. I decided to call my FMIL because I knew she'd have an answer. (nothing like oil dripping in your oven and using baking soda and elbow grease to get rid of it.) It's very much something I would've called my mom about if she was still around.
And I agree about the address thing. I have to send out Save the dates and it's going to be a PITA to get all the addresses. Not looking forward to it. I would've asked my sister for the addresses, but she just called people to invite them (she had 3 months to do her wedding.)

I was lucky enough to be able to go dress shopping with my sister and my Aunt but it still wasn't the same. My mom would've been great at handling all of the issues that might arise with differing personalities throughout the process, she would've told them all OFF LOL

Will any of you not have your parents at your wedding?
My dad passed away almost 24 years ago. My mom will be walking me down the aisle. I've always known he wasn't going to be there when I got married since I was 8 when he passed but it is still really hard. Hang in their ladies, your parents like my did will be there partying with us.

I tell people this ALLLL the time. Even if your parents aren't great all of the time, don't take them for granted. I would give anything to ask my dad a question, hear his voice, anything. I'm very lucky to have an amazing FFIL, but it's not the same.
