Hey everyone...I went to the dentist today and found out I need to get my wisdom teeth out....Anyone who has had this done, did you have 2 a time done or all 4?? How bad did it really hurt and were you asleep when they did it??? Thanks girls!!

I only had one pulled. Long story but let's just sayI stopped chewing gum in high school and now I have braces to line everything up properly.

It hurt like hell when they pulled it out. Or should I say there was a lot of pressure and I swear I heard my bone cracking. After the drugs wore off, it did not hurt though. I had a lot of gauze in my mouth for a while that day but nothing too bad.

Don't worry about it. I had all 4 taken out at once and since they knocked me out it wasn't bad at all. The only bad time was as soon as the novacaine wore off, but once I took the drugs they gave me, I didn't have any problem.

I only had three- I'm weird. They were impacted so they had to drill into my jaw- don't ask. It was painful but everyone's esperience is different. I would recommend having them all pulled at once.

I had all 4 pulled out at once and only used novicane & gas (my choice... I didn't want to be put under). It wasn't too bad during, but afterwards my face swelled up and my FH kept saying I looked like a chip munk!
I just took the codine I was given and ate soft foods for about a week. It'll be ok... don't worry!

Yes, get all four done at once. Mine were fully impacted and growing horizontally out towards the sides of my mouth The oral surgeon put me asleep. Just make sure you have someone to make you milkshakes for the next few days.

I had all four of mine pulled out on Mon, Dec 27th. I was put out. As great as it was that I didn't feel anything, I am still in pain. After a week and a half I am still really sore. I think having mouth pain is the worst feeling in the world because it just makes the rest of you feel so achy.

Hope all goes well!!!

Just a note: I would buy a few things of ambesol. I bought the Jr version (bubble gum flavor ) and it helps me relieve the pain throughout the day so I don't keep taking Rxs.

Hi -

I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled about 3 weeks ago. I totally recommend getting all 4 taken out at once so you dont have to go back and go trough it all over again. I was put out and it was the best thing! You go to sleep and wake up and it is all over. I started to feel pain later on in the day but my dentist gave me pain pills which made it feel much better ! You will be sore for a couple of days for sure....you will have to eat soup and soft foods for a couple of days until your mouth is not so tender anymore. If you work I would suggest you take off the day after the procedure just to rest and relax. The thing that bothered me the most was the stitches...only because I kept feeling the string in my mouth but they are only kept in for a week! Good Luck!!!

Me too! You're not the only weird one! I had them all pulled at the end of last summer. The oral surgeon put me under, and I didn't feel any pain until the novicane wore off. Dr. gave me 2 different pain killers to try b/c I have a weak stomache. Pain went away in a few days, and the stiches came out after about 5 days. Nothing to worry about, you'll be fine

I would have them all done at once...and DEFINATELY get put to sleep...unless you don't mind the dentist...

I made the mistake of getting them done one at a time... I would make myself nervous everytime I went bc I thought the pain was unbearable (its bearable...esp with all the painkillers they give you)...get it all over with so you don't have to go through the discomfort afterwards four times or even twice...

Re: Wisdom teeth question...Please help!!

I only had three wisdom teeth. I had one out separately and it wasn't so bad. I hardly noticed it, I went to work and then school - no problem. When I went back to get the other two done, however, I thought he was trying to kill me. It was the aftercare that killed me. Just make sure that you have someone to take you home and be around. I got squeemish changing the dressings and stuff. So, if you're like that, just be prepared. Everyone is different though. You may get all four out at the same time and it'll be a breeze!! Have you ever had a tooth pulled before?

I haven't had it done, but everyone I spoke to that has, recommends to do it all 4 at once! You are asleep when they do it, and the pain is after the procedure. So, would you want that pain twice?

I had 2 done and then the other 2 done a week later and I had a wonderful experience!! I only had novacaine and I had no swelling or bruising afterward at all...The only pain I experienced was right after the novacaine wore off and I wouldn't really consider it pain..It was more like a stinging feeling...Good luck!!!

Re: Wisdom teeth question...Please help!!

i've never had any tooth pulled before... and the first time will involve 4 teeth!!

i guess the surgeon knows i wouldn't wanna go back for a 2nd time, that's why he told me to do all 4 at once!!

he said i'll have to eat soft food for 7 days.....

I had all four out at once and they put me to sleep for it (I highly recommend it!)

They had me on so many drugs I couldn't feel a thing for about a week after. I don't remember feeling sore, just stiff. And I got swollen. But really it's not so bad. Definitely not as bad as I thought.

Just make sure you use the syringe thing they give you to clean out your mouth and DON'T eat rice until you're fully healed!!

Re: Wisdom teeth question...Please help!!

I had 2 done at a time. My bottom hurt so I figured while he was in there he might as well take the top too. and the same thing the next year when my other side started hurting. I wouldn't put it off if you are in pain - it will only get worse. I was knocked out. The first time i was fine afterwards, the next I was bruised and it hurt. I also think it has to do with the oral surgeon you go with. I had a different one each time.
Good Luck
