Worst Wedding Gifts

Original post by msabla1

Hello,
Any newlyweds out there have a 'worst wedding gift story?' I know there have been a great deal of posts as how much to give to the happy couple.

Just curious.

Thanks.

Re: Worst Wedding Gifts

My uncle received a card with nothing in it for his wedding last year. And it was from his nephew!!! I understand that sometimes people fall on hard times, so you have to understand that some people can only afford to give a small gift. If you know that person well enough, you should know their financial situation. However, I do agree that some people are just downright RUDE and inconsiderate, especially when you have a decent amount of time to come up with something as a gift.

I agree, I mean fine if people can't afford to give you a decent amount of money, but at least go out and get a (cheap) gift which shows you put some thought into it (ie a nice framed pic or something to that effect).

I just got married 10/06/07 and I received a gold jingle bell wreath that looked like they got it at a garage sale or were just trying to get rid of it. That is all I got from the couple also.

Re: Worst Wedding Gifts

we saw someone proudly display their 'blockbuster night' gift bag at a friend's wedding about two years ago... it was DH's friend from College. we were horrified... it was a fleece blanket, two movie rentals, popcorn, snowcaps, twizzlers and that's it!!

Oh wow.... I wonder what will happen at our wedding. We will have a lot of OOT guests and apparently it's common to give gifts not $$$. Will they really fly across the country with these gifts? Will they send them to us? will they give a check?

We didn't get a single engagement gift from FH's side of the family or friends (including the one groomsman that actually came to our e-party) so it will be interesting to see what happens with the wedding.

OMG!!!! $25???? couldn't they have at least made in $75 LOLOL. What are these people thinking???

As for bouncec Checks, I went to a wedding in 2005, bride said one of her 'No' responses showed up to cocktail hr. then leaves. She gives them a check for $50 & it bounced!!!!!!!!!

I think if people come to your wedding and give you a 25 gift, so be it, a wedding is not about making money IMHO

I am thankful for all the gifts I had received, big and small

Re: Worst Wedding Gifts

a 'painting' from my great uncle's live-in nurse.

We didn't even invite her - my great uncle made us add her to the guest list (they really DON'T need her all the time - he's quite wealthy and employs a couple of live in staff, and just likes the convenience) He told my dad that he'd pay for her and never did. At the wedding, he proudly announced to me that she was an 'artist' and had given us a painting. It looks like a paint by numbers. It's awful. I also enjoyed the chicken-scratched card that said 'thank you for inviting me. Love (whatever her name is, don't remember)). I was amused, especially as I DIDN'T actually invite her, and have never met her before and so therefore didn't really want her there...

It was sweet of her to give us something... but... really. No gift needed on this one, I wasn't expecting anything, and now I have to find someplace to shove this monstrosity so that my aunt and uncle don't get offended!

I completely agree. We all thought it was hilarious that my friend got the Borders gift card when neither the bride or groom ever read a book in their life! LOL

So far the worst gift we received was nothing (not even a card) from one of the GM.

I don't think it's out of line to not get engagement gifts..I don't think they should be expected
