Worst Wedding Gifts

Original post by msabla1

Hello,
Any newlyweds out there have a 'worst wedding gift story?' I know there have been a great deal of posts as how much to give to the happy couple.

Just curious.

Thanks.

I just dont get it... if you are strapped for cash, i TOTALLY understand, but why not take the time and make something like a photo album for the couple. Or sit down and write a meaningful 2 page letter?!

I guess its just easier to dig something out of your attic than it is to put in the effort... ugh.

DH friend gave us 60 bucks worth from our registry for 2 people. But its OK - I have a list of all gifts and I will make sure that when they get married, we will give the same amount

This thread is CLASSIC and is making me laugh all night, THANK YOU ALL!!!

WHat if all the LIW newlyweds took their WORST gifts, only stuff that's new/unused, lumped it together and made a donation to a women's shelter or something, then at least there would be a good memory for everyone!!!

OMG!!!! $25???? couldn't they have at least made in $75 LOLOL. What are these people thinking???

As for bouncec Checks, I went to a wedding in 2005, bride said one of her 'No' responses showed up to cocktail hr. then leaves. She gives them a check for $50 & it bounced!!!!!!!!!

I think if people come to your wedding and give you a 25 gift, so be it, a wedding is not about making money IMHO

I am thankful for all the gifts I had received, big and small

I completely agree. We all thought it was hilarious that my friend got the Borders gift card when neither the bride or groom ever read a book in their life! LOL

Yes I do understand the wedding is not about making big bucks$$$. However I just thought it was out of line for a family of THREE to give a $25 dollar gift to a newlywed couple. I know it's better than giving an empty card, but still!

As long as your married to the person you love, the happiness is permanent gift!!

No bounced checks, although I did receive nothing from a couple of people and a very small amount from a family of 4.

ETA: Yet, on the other end of the spectrum, peoples generosity moved me to tears.

a slip for a $50 savings bond... but we never actually received the bond so technically it was nothing. It was from an acquaintence of my DHs who he worked w/ a couple of times and the guy is in EVERY frame of our wedding video. It's so annoying! Every time I see him in our video I tell DH that he should email him or call him to let him know that the bond must've gotten lost in the mail. :LOL!

Re: Worst Wedding Gifts

About 2 months after our wedding we got a card from one of dh's good friends wife that said 'Sorry for the late wedding present. I wanted to give you cash, but Scott insisted on getting you something more personal. We hope you enjoy your one year subscription to Entertainment Weekly which you will start to receive in the next couple of weeks.'

Aside from the fact that anyone can by a subscription for $20, and I have no clue what makes that gift 'personal'........what really makes this an awful gift is that they 100% know that I work for the company that publishes EW and get it for FREE every week delivered to my desk!!!

Two of my brother's friends (who are 19) gave FH and I Trojan Magnums and then in case they didn't work, baby clothes.
The best part.........we opened our presents in front of both sets of parents. I was laughing hysterically! Love those boys!

One of DH's long time friends who I cannot stand - RSVP'd for two people - only showed up with himself and didn't give us a gift. He sent an email like a week later saying he forgot the card at home. It's been 4 months and still nothing!
