Would you agree to be without your ring?

Would you agree to be without your ring?

I can't find a band that matches my e-ring and want to have one custom made. I was told that they have to keep mine while they make it and I am not happy about this AT ALL. I don't know what to do. Would you do it?? I would figure it might take a week or two and I really do not want to be without my ring that long. Any suggestions?

eta.. I know the jeweler personally so I am not worried about them changing the center stone either so thats not a problem, but still!

Nope, no way, never! But mostly because my ring was my grandmothers and if anything were to happen, it could not be replaced.

NO WAY JOSE!!!!! I would never leave my e-ring with a jeweler. not even one that I trusted. you just don't know who else will get their hands on it.

JMO

you should find out if the jeweler can take a clay mold of your e-ring's band?

NO! I would stand there and let him made a mold of it or take photos or measurements, in front of me, but I would not give it to anyone.

I'm going to call him tomorrow and ask. I totally threw a fit when he said he wants to keep it to 'get a perfect match' umm no thats ok, if you get it wrong you will do it again till you get it right. YOU are the jeweler and should know how to do these things

i wouldn't leave it with your stone in it, but they can easily remove the stone and you take it home while they use your ring to make the mold. i had to leave my ring with a local jeweler this past weekend (i have my stone) while they make a mold of my ring to make me a new one (my current one is 18k gold that my loving fiancee got bc he thought it was better bc it was more expensive, oh boy, it was waaay to soft) my new one will have 14k white gold for the setting and 14k gold for the ring (much stronger). they will have my ring for 3 weeks, while i hate not wearing it, it was worth it for me bc i do not want to worry about loosing my stones!

however, you *should* be able to have the jeweler who you originally got your ring from to make your band without leaving your ring at all. they should have the mold already and would not need to copy it.

goodluck!

I was without my ring for about 2 weeks when we were having it restored (it's a family heirloom). It was 'weird' because I'm used to it but it also felt funny going to meet with vendors (this was awhile ago when I was first booking things) because I didn't feel 'legitimate' without my ring on -- it was a really strange feeling because I know it's not about the ring. Guess it was a flashback to my single days when my friends and I used to pretend that we were getting engaged and would go engagement ring 'shopping' at the jewelry store

I had to get my ring fixed after a month and he kept mine, he's not going to do anything with it and heaven forbid something does happen he's responsible. He's a jeweler he handles these things all day long, i'm sure nothing will happen to it, you said it's a place that you know and trust. I don't know maybe I dont see it as that big of a deal b/c my jewerly is a family friend, but sometimes they had to take it to get resized, fixed or now matched..i wouldn't get so stressed about it once its in his hands he's responsible he's not going to let anything happen to it

I'm without my ring all the time...you feel sad at first, but will get used to it. And it's for a worthy cause since you're getting 2 rings back!

Our jeweler took my ring for one day to make a wax mold of it which he then used to make my eternity band. Your jeweler should definitely be able to make a mold.

i left mine, they took out the center stone and gave it to me w/o me even asking, they don't keep a ring with the diamond b/c they don't want to be responsible, i hated having to go without my ring but it's back on my finger and soon i'll have a custom made band too! if you trust who you are working with i would, but not the center stone, no matter how much i trust anyone my stone stays with me!!

NO Way...I gave the jeweler pics of my ring...and a photo copy for actual size and dimensions.

No- I had my band custom made by elsa in farmingdale- they do fabulous work and they NEVER kept my ring. They had me sit in the back with them as they carved a wax mold based on my e-ring.

I would do it - though no matter how much I trust him I would ask to keep the center stone (and take it home with me)

I had to leave my ring for a week because he 'cleaned, resized and adjusted' some settings. Also, I didn't wear the ring for a month before the wedding because I wanted it to be clean for the wedding.

The way I figured, I have the rest of my life to wear it, so not wearing it for a month was okay

I did..the jeweler who made and designed my E ring had to design a special wedding band to fit, so he took it for 3 days. He is a close family friend of FH so I completely trusted him. It was just sad to not have it! :(
