would you tell the truth?

Original post by snoozyandboo

If a bride posted here saying 'here's a picture of my dress what do you think?' or 'I just booked my RH its _________' would you give your honest opinion? I'm just curious because whenever someone posts something, everyone always says how beautiful it is. I'm not thinking of anything specific so don't freak if you just posted your invite pic or something. I'm just asking in general: how honest are we? Frankly, I don't know if I would say I hated something, unless someone asked to choose between two options, even then I wouldn't say 'Oh pick two because one is horrible!'

If something is not posed as a question, but rather just a picture of a dress/shoes/whatever, and it's something that I personally don't like, I just don't respond at all.

Now....there are plenty of threads that I've not responded to about dresses/shoes/whatever and that doesn't mean I don't like them. LIW is a 24/7 operation, and we all have lives. Realistically, we're not on the site all the time, and we all miss out on posts.

However, if something is posed as a question; ie., 'I'm thinking of booking _______, anyone have experience with them?' - if I had a bad experience, I will tell the person via FM about it. They asked for input, I gave it.

When something is an either/or (invite 1 vs. invite 2), then I'll give my input as well. Again, they're asking.

So, back to the question...I prefer to go the 'if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all' route.

lol what a silly question - I think people are honest as far as vendors and RHs go. But this site is also somewhat of a support group, where we can share our exciting journeys of picking dresses and other wedding related things. Why would you be cruel and say you hate someone's dress?

If someone posted a few dresses and said which one do you like better and why? Then I would respond truthfully. If someone posted 'IAM SO HAPPY ABOUT MY DRESS!' I would congratulate her more for her being so happy and finding her 'one.' I could care less what it looks like - as long as she is happy.

I love how supportive people are here and it's fun to share all that you are going through with those that are going through the same - why hurt someones feelings!!

i say honesty is the best policy, with that said, honesty is the best policy within reason. I would never go thats absolutely horrible or something like that. i would try to find what i do like and comment on that and maybe fm my opinion if opinions were asked for.

If it's already something they booked or own, I just kept my mouth shut because there's nothing they can do about it. Hey, they love it, so who am I to say? But if it's something they were considering but hadn't committed, I would be honest without TRYING to be insulting (but you never know on here what will get people's panties in a twist!).

i try to be as honest as i can without hurting someones feelings.

like others have said, if someone says, 'this is the dress i ordered what do you think?' if i like it i say so, if i don't i say nothing.

where as if someone asks an opinion, 'i am considering this dress or this dress, which do you like better?' i am as honest as i can possibly be.

When I posted more frequently I just wouldn't respond if it was something I really didn't like. Or I might point out the things I DID like about it and not mention the things I didn't. I think it's best to be honest with everyone but I also like making people feel good. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean it's not the best thing for that person and I wouldn't want to upset them if I didn't like what they're posting.

You know, I can't even remember what picture or thread, . - other than it was a heavy-set bride with this dress on and I thought the dress only made her look heavier, and then there were messages linking her to asking whether she should go for the dress.

Everyone of course said 'sure, it looks GREAT on you' but if I had been around when the Thread was active, I would have just pointed out another dress that was listed as an alternative that flattered her figure better..

But that's just me, If you really want to be a bridezilla, FM me for the user name/profile - she is a 2010 bride.

and honestly, I think some of them are just hideous. Like this picture of a bride on the 2010 board where she is a little heavy-set but her dress just doesn't flatter her at all..

This is not nice at all. y would u specify? Its not like ppl on the 2010 board won't be able to see this

ITA this is probably going to be

o crap

You can call it like you see it, but if you are going to do that you should do it with some tact and class.

Is this serious?

Chica, you had girls on your side on the other thread but you won't get any on this one. You are basically saying that someone looks fat in her dress, and you are asking people to FM you so you can tell them who it is. Not. Cool. No one is gonna get on this train with you. I don't get why you're stirring the pot like, 6 hours later.

ETA and don't even try to say that 'hideous' is being tactful. Fine, if you think the dress is unflattering, whatever, but you're calling it hideous and then you're trying to defend yourself. Astonishing!

I think she is stirring the pot because she just wants attention... she wants to keep this thread alive...

You should have really just left it alone

I understand what u r saying here, but what u said was inappropriate. All I did was call u out on being disrespectful. I don't see how u could be rude about something and then be even more rude in trying to defend urself about it.

The point is not that u felt the dress was unflattering. U r entitled to that opinion and maybe u were right

However just like many said in this thread, y would u say something about it in risk of hurting someone's feelings. It's not affecting u in any way and there is no reason to point it out to everyone else..I'm just thinking about other 2010 brides that see this and begin to wonder if it is them u r talking about. I'm just saying it was unnecessary and probably caused a lot more harm than u think. It's more than u calling it as u see it, its about how u make others feel in the process.

If I don't like it or don't think it looks good, I don't post anything.
