WOW just got layed off

Holy Cow, I got layed off yesterday. I gues i am fully in the job search now...anyne have any suggestions? Thanks

SOooo sorry! I almost got laid off recently myself and its such a scary and humiliating thing.

But as everyone told me - you will find something BETTER!

Agreed Sonicstef! I was laid off two years ago and since then I've doubled my salary and working in a very well known law firm in manhattan - Things will work out! It did for me!

I will also echo what some of the girls have said. A year and 1/2 ago I was laid-off all of a sudden. It was horrible. I cried because I knew it was totally the new a$$ CEO that just wanted slaves and kiss a$$es working for him. Well I took 7 weeks off and loved every single minute of it. It really shows you who you true friends are. I had some people at work I considered close friends but they never even called me after I got laid-off, NOT a sign of good friend. It weeded out the jerks from my life!
I got an even better job with a much better boss, who gave me extra time off before the wedding.
Look at this as a positive. Use this time to clean your closets, put a scrapbook together, have lunch with some friends (cheap lunches :) and find a new job you love even more.

Michele I totally agree! I too took my lay off as a little vacation, 8 weeks to be exact - it got me thinking straight! And I agree about the friend thing too! I'll tell you, I have to Thank my last company for this - I don't think I would be where I am today!

Thanks Girls for your support. I am keeping very positive and my FI is all excited b/c I never have time to go to the gym.. and now I have no excuse!! I think the gym is his religion! Hopefully, I will find my true nitch in the job market.

My dad was laid off yesterday too. He worked for a very large co. for over 22 years. They paid for our family to transfer here to FL and then let him go 6 months before his early retirement!! My dad really took it hard, he had been the bread winner in the family and it just crushed his ego. Since then he has been applying for these really stupid jobs because he thinks that's all he'll be able to get (he thinks he's too old to get into a good position). But you have you have to realize that it's nothing personal, it's just that most of the people running these companies don't care about their workers, they only care about the bottom line.

I am so sorry to hear that. Ive been hearing of layoffs at my job too but have kept my fingers crossed.

What type of work do you do? (or WANT to do

) Maybe someone on here knows of a position for you

Hi, sorry to hear about your lay-off. I just wanted to pipe in that I, too to laid off. My dept moved to Texas, and they either would
a. lay us off
b. let us work for another dept doing something we hated

I let them lay me off even though I knew I had the wedding coming up. I took a vacation, really relaxed for a while, collected my severence and unemployment, and now I work somewhere that I LOVE, making much more money than I did before

You will find something better, just like I did.
This also happenned to my FH before, and he also got a much better job afterwards, he just didnt vacation as much as me, hee hee

I was also laid off...now I have a better paying/better medical benefits job with more potential for advancement. Good Luck. Somethingbetter will come out of this
