Re: what can I expect to pay for college - part time

I'd say anywhere from $300-600 a credit. So for 1 class around $900-1800 and 2 classes $1800-3600.

Jenny it depends where and what you go back for and at what level. If you don't have your BA or BS I would start taking the classes that you can at a community college. I know that Stony Brook when I did my Grad was about $500-$800 a class or maybe more (I don't remember much anymore).

I'm not sure how much your financial aid will cover. Probably just best to go and talk to a financial aid counselor.

That's awesome on going back to school....best of luck!!

I might be wrong but I think you need at least 6 credits for a loan and 9 for financial aid???

For me, one class at Sony Brook costs around $1000 (that is for 3 credits).

Julz is right, you need to be registered for 9 credits at most schools to qualify for financial aid and you need 6 for a loan. Adelphi is really expensive, too, just so you know. Take a look at all of their websites, they usually tell you how much per credit their classes are. Good luck!

All expensive, I'm sorry

What about SUNY Old Westbury? They may have the program you are looking for. The other three are expensive because they are private. Maybe a Suny school will be cheaper.

I would definitely go for the masters... because if you already have your bachelors, and you get another bachelors in education, you will still have to get your masters on top of that anyway!

That's what I did.

I was researching this the other day Adelphi was actually cheaper than Hofstra, but not by much.

I second checking out SUNY old wesbury - what about Farmingdale?

Farmingdale doesn't have any graduate programs, or any undergrad education programs. Old Westbury has a strong elementary education program. Old Westbury and Stony Brook would probably be your cheapest options. Stony Brook doesn't have undergrad. elementary ed. or phys. ed. programs, but I believe the Masters in Education programs will cover you for elementary and phys. ed. teaching. If you can't get financial aid, you could try a bank loan. My brother is doing that for law school to cover cost of living expenses in addition to tuition....Good luck!

Post/Hofstra/Adelphi/Dowling will all run you about $1800/class. If you take 9 credits (like mentioned earlier), you can qualify for a full loan.

ykes,,how much does financial aid cover

I guess I'd need a loan???

how old are you...do you qualify for Pell grant or TAP??? What school are you thinking of attending?

ONCE AGAIN... I should read the whole thread before posting.

Adelphi has pretty good FinAid dept. They also have cooperatives that if you work for a NYC public school for -x- amount of time, you will be forgiven for -y- amount of your loan. (it varies)
Unfortunately they are one of the more expensive schools. Did you look at Queens????

I know it may be farther for you but Queens College is pretty resonable and has a very well respected education dept.
