hmmm...tough one. You could make it an Invitation Only party.

'AS per establishment regulations, all those attending the party must be present by such & such a time or will not be allowed access.'

P.S. does your MIL knwo you are doing this? If someone gets offended and turns around and tells her, I'd be so worried that she would be mad/upset with you!
