I know how you feel. I don't get it either. Especially when they have sooo much but yet give you $30. I got thirty dollars for a gift from a single well off cousin. I don't get it.![]()

Yup, I hate it too. We are not inviting certain people to our wedding because my brother got stiffed for his($150 from a couple for a Saturday night wedding that was $112 per person) and my dad said screw'em for our wedding (they were his cousins).

Some people can't afford more then 150....And I wouldn't care what people can give me, I would just want them there.

A girl I have known since college in Texas - 1990 - who also moved here and was close with me for awhile came to my shower and got me a gift off my registry that was $26.40. I was super ****ed. She also made snarky comments to some people at her table that she basically thought my shower was tacky (which it was not - it was beautiful and a lot of hard work, love and energy went into it).

I guess it just depends on how much you know the person. I was a BM in my friend's wedding (she wasn't a BM for me though)... I not only helped pay for her shower, but I hand made 50 bottles of home made flavored vinegars with recipes attached to use it.. it took me about 2 weeks to do (and you need to sterilize everything)... I got her a very nice gift for her shower, her bachelorette and her wedding.. and she gave me a salt & pepper shaker for my shower (that she didn't even come to)...
If you know people don't have it's one thing- but to be like this when you know otherwise... annoying.
These thoughts come up.. but I just have to tell myself to pay no mind & always be the better person.![]()

My maid of honour didnt give us a gift,, which i was ok with cause sometimes people cant afford it, but i was REALLY ****ed that she didnt even bother to give me a card or anything...

I understand your frustration at people that are being cheap. There were a lot of people at my wedding in February that did not cover their heads. In fact there are a couple of people who didn't even give us a card let alone a gift. I am still ****ed off about it and our wedding was in February.
However the other side to this coin is that most people give back as a gift what they received. For example, despite how much I paid per head, if a friend or family member gave me a gift of $250 for themselves and a guest, I would give them the same amount of money regardless of what they paid per head. There are some weddings that the bride and groom pays a ridiculous amount of money per head. I don't feel like I should have to pay double the amount of money they gave me as a wedding gift just because they decided to overpay for their wedding.

When you invite guests to your wedding you must expect a gift of ZERO and then decide 'Do you still want these people at your wedding?'.If the answer is No then don't invite them. Never invite someone because you think 'they will cover their plate'. Chances are it will not happen. Besides the per plate charge is just the beginning of the cost of the wedding.
Many people have NO idea what a wedding costs 'these days' and many don't care. They give what they can or want to give, no more.
There were a few people at my wedding and my shower whose gifts suprised me, both ways. Not everyone believes in spending $$$ on others.

I have to say, I can sympathize with people giving a small shower gift -- especially in the case of a person who has an engagement party, followed by the shower, followed by the wedding. It all starts to add up to a silly amount of gifts. Personally, I spend $X per couple getting married regardless of how many events they have. If they have all the events, then the amount is split, if they don't they get a bigger wedding gift. I can understand the expectations that people have for the wedding, but for the shower I don't think we should be so critical...
