Re: Birth Control Question

there's no difference between 'real' and generic brands ... why won't you just use it?

Ugh thats so annoying... I take Yasmine too and the generic gave me problems.

It's really nice of you to give them to someone!

Actually, I'm the biggest proponent of generic drugs you'll ever meet, but sometimes when you're dealing with drugs with such small therapeutic indices like hormones, the brand and the generic do not react the exact same way in the same body after you factor in the the way the inactive ingredients affect the bioavailabilty in the body.

Not to say that for a lot of people there will be no difference in how they feel on the brand or the generic, and no difference in how it works, but for some people, it makes a difference with certain drugs.

People who INSIST on taking brand name Tylenol and most other things drive me crazy, but when it comes to Synthroid or Birth Control or blood thinners, I get it.

Totally agree - i took a generic of Ortho Cyclen and it made me severely (and violently) lactose intolerant! It was so strange.

I'm on yasmin and I find the generic brand to be EXACTLY the same. Sorry you are unhappy with it!

Actually, there is.
The active ingredient is the same, what is different are the 'fillers' they use. My Dr. advised me against the generic of my BCP. One month my pharmacy was out of my pill, and I took the generic, and had horrible side effects that I never had with the 'real'.
