we will be ordering them even though it is a half jewish ceremony. Who ever wants to wear them will wear them. Another option is to combine both religions and have them wear a yamaclaus (half yamulkah, half santa hat)
Do you think this is something i have to have, we are having a rabbi do the ceremony but i really didnt want to do these, i dont want my family to feel it is an all jewish ceremony
FYI, you don't HAVE to do it, its really a personal preference (IMO especially if you aren't Jewish). My BIL isn't Jewish and they didn't have a religious ceremony at all other than being married by a cantor.
They didn't want to offend either side of the family. I've been to weddings we're they've done two services as well. One with a priest, one with a rabbi.
Both of us are Jewish so we are sticking to the traditions.

It's up to you. We're getting married under a chuppa, we ordered our ketuba, we're dancing the hora, as well as the mezula? (I forget how it spell it, it's the dance done around the parents after they marry off their last child)
I want white satin, not sure how they will look...
I've been told there are a lot of places on the east side (not sure where exactly tho). Ask your rabbi, otherwise you could probably try ebay or some of the other sites.
Just curious, where did you get your ketubah? I have one at home somewhere that I bought more than 10 years ago in Israel....I really have to see if my dad still has it. I didn't realize what it was until I got home....I didn't kno any better I was only 17 at the time.
We're trying to keep with the traditions as well. The chuppah, glass hora, mazinka (I think thats what you are talking about).
We ordered it through our officant. I'm contemplating going to Isreal w/ birth right (I'm converting before my 26th b-day) and Hillel told me about the program. FH thinks I'm crazy for wanting to go, just b/c it's a war zone,

Perfect only if we were getting married in December

i dont think FH wants it, he never wears his, not even when he goes to temple
Jason feels the same way, but it's honestly going to be on for what 45min max, so he's compromised.

I highly recommend going eventually. It was the most enlightening experience of my life and i'm not a religious person. Both FH and I did it in HS with USY (at different times). I know people that did birthright and felt the same way :)
Right now tho, eh i'm not sure if I would be rushing out there. Even when I was there 10+ years ago there were bomb threats and other terrorist problems but nothing like it is now.

Re: yarmukahs?
Idk if I will be ordering them - going to wait till 6 months before so I can talk to the Rabbi since we're not having the ceremony in the temple (all at Russo's) idk if I need them. I don't think I do.. maybe for the BP but that's it.
Not sure if I want to go through the expense of a ketubah either but where did you ladies get yours (if you're having one).

That's FH's concern, he's like we live a beautiful life, let's not go out of our way to enter harms way

according to the Rabbi & Cantor, we spoke to they are optional if the ceremony isn't in a temple

We're not talking to the Rabbi for another 6 months or so either. When they said they'd call in Dec/Jan for an appointment I was like I'm trying to convince FH to go to services one Friday night so he can meet him before then. I'm not crazy about our rabbi but he was the one that bat mitvah'ed me so it was important to me that he marry me as well.

Re: yarmukahs?
I ordered my yamakas on Ave P and Kings Highway in Brooklyn from the Judaica store. We got them engraved as well with our names and dates on the inside, they were ready in two weeks. I reccomend them.

Re: yarmukahs?
YEAH i think its appropriate too, i mean there are quite alot who are extremely religious and would want to wear one
I know,. even tho, our wedding is before sundown on the sabbath I think it would look nice, there are customs from the ceremony that I really like, I like the idea of both my parents walking me down, what the chuppa symbolizes, and the circeling 3x.
Just wanted to let you know the circling around the groom is seven times not three. We are not doing it b/c i dont like what it symbolizes, but its very pretty, we've seen it done at many weddings.
