You know what? If I wanted your opinion......
I'd ask!!!! What is it with people sometimes? Once they hear you are getting married, they are THE authority on how you should do it!! 'Oh, no, you should do it THIS way...' or 'why don't you do it THIS way...' or 'this is how I did it'. I love getting advice, but I hate those 'condescending' opinions, you know what I mean?? My SIL is FAMOUS for that.grrrrrrrrr. I think I'm PMS'ing

Re: You know what? If I wanted your opinion......
It's normal, we all go through that. Everyone thinks they're a wedding planner and they have the best ideas....when in fact YOUR ideas are the best. Try to shrug it off and say, 'Thank your for your input, I'll think about it.'

You know what comment I hate the most is??'why are you getting married in Feb.? What if it snows??'
Jeez. we're paying for it ourselves, and it's cheaper in the winter. I feel like saying, 'why? do YOU want to pay for it??'

When I started wedding planning my brother told me 'opinions are like assholes, everybody has one'. That always makes me feel better

Do NOT let the anti-winter wedding people get to you. That's right, it's cheaper, and I regret not booking mine for winter. And here's proof of the fact that if people want to come to your wedding, they will come whether it snows or not: My girlfriend got married on February 17, 2003. That date ring any bells? It was a day or two after the NYC BLIZZARD of the year! Where'd she get married? In Ocho Rios Jamaica. Me and another girlfriend drove 5mph to the airport at 6:00 in the morning through a foot of snow to catch an 8:00am flight that did not leave until 7:00pm that evening. We were determined to be there for her. And, as tired as we were, we MADE IT! Your day will be great, you will be beautiful and that's that!
Sorry - had to vent on your behalf.

My favorite is '2006, why 2006! You should just do it in 2005. It's closer!' Ahem, are you PAYING for my wedding cause then I'll do it your way. But since it's my money, and my time spent researching, booking, stressing out, etc., then I'll do it MY WAY.

Re: You know what? If I wanted your opinion......
This is so on point right now!!!! I was told who my 'must use' vendors are already and that I 'can't' use anyone else since this bride won't 'allow' it. W-T-F!!!!FSIL also told us that we 'must' do it in NJ since it's cheaper. She quickly corrected herself though when she saw the look on my face and then said 'you can do it wherever you want since I don't know what's in your bank account.' --- speaking of which, I need to post about her anyway and get opinions.

I couldn't agree with you more. I don't even want to tell people what I'm doing, they always tell you how to do it better.

Has anyone gotten this one..What are you bothering with a big wedding for, just do the city hall thing. It'll save you plenty of money. Doing it your way is just a waste of money.

Re: You know what? If I wanted your opinion......
I had one woman that I work with tell me that she doesn't believe a wedding that is planned after a two year engagement will ever actually take place....this of course after she told me that she thought I would marry someone much smarter than a cop (my FI's job), and she couldn't understand how I could do that since I have a master's degree. I was like what?!?! Some people are just incredible. (And I've also gotten the why are you getting married in the winter?!)

Ive gotten all these and more!!! I hate it and I cant take it anymore!!!! There have been several people at my job that have gotten engaged and married already within my 18 month engagement. People are always like 'when are you getting married again?' and I say 'when you are going to shut up again'?????FH and I are paying for the whole thing = we make all decisions!!!

I have a friend like this. It's so irritating! I try to just ignore and say alot of 'uh-huh' 'hmmm' and 'maybe'.
And don't get me started on the long engagement thing. My family was happy but FI's was a different story. Nobody said anything (b/c FI's sister and brother had financial asst from the father and we're paying for e/t ourselves) but it was made pretty loud and clear. People
They just don't know when to shut-up! ETA: and mind their own bussiness!!!

That would piss me off
I have a law degree and my FI runs his brother's property management company - which has done pretty well for the past 23 years I might add and FI may buy in.
If ANYONE ever questioned my choice of life partner, I'd snap. I have friends that probably have a negative opinion since I have a grad degree and FI does not but who cares. If they ever voice that opinion we would NEVER be friends again. Lots of them have a list of what the man should have before they even date him (liek sex in the city) - which is why they are still single I guess.Who is this chick to tell you that taking 2 years to plan and save means it won't happen
The nerve of some people. You should tell her that once her $100K check clears you will have your wedding at Oheka. Otherwise, she really needs to mind her own business.
Okay, maybe i'm taking this too personal.

Re: You know what? If I wanted your opinion......
Wow. Just when you think you're alone . . .
I get this ALL the time. After so many months of this, I have learned who the people in my world are who support me, and the rest get a 'well, you'll just be surprised when you come!' I think the people who give unsolicited advice either (a) have WAY too much time on their hands; (b) are unhappy with/not sure about their own life choices and taking it out on you; (c) are simply annoying. So, I just ignore, ignore, ignore. And I've asked my trusted BP to keep them away from me on the big day!

Yes, she actually does have her own list: must have college degree, must have white collar job, must make $$$....and yes she is still single, in her mid 40s and living w/ her mom...

Re: You know what? If I wanted your opinion......
I have to agree that I like to bounce ideas off of people, especialy those that are planning a wedding right now, or have recently planned one. But like everyone else I have heard all the opinions. Sometimes I think they truly think they are helping. But sometimes they have to realize you have already thought this all through and have made your decision.Case in point, at one time I got some bs from the FMIL about us having a vegan wedding cake. 'Oh so are you still having a vegan wedding cake' I was like thinking, hmmm FH doesn't mind and I am vegan. I believe we are the bride and groom. FH told her 'No mom, your slice is the only slice that wont be vegan.'
Anyway, good to get that out!!!
