OH MY GOD!!!! GET THIS!!!!!! FH's aunt HAD THE NERVE to call us yesterday and leave a message on our machine (3 actually - b/c they were so long she kept getting cut off.) And she started by saying, 'Hi guys, it's Aunt So and so....blahblah blah....I want to congratulate you and say that her son (FH's cousin) is graduating from HS the day of our wedding and it's his special day (the graduation is in the morning) and we don't know if we'll be able to make the wedding.... CAN YOU CALL THE INN AT EAST WIND AND RESCHEDULE YOUR WEDDING FOR ANOTHER DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' And the madness continues when she says, It's his special day and it's not fair to him and if she wantS to throw a party on Sunday the day after our wedding no one will come b/c they went to your wedding the day before and it's not fair to him BLAH BLAH BLAH....' Is she crazy!!!?!?!?!?!!??!!!! She left 3 messages and they were sooo long and she went on and on and on and on. I was PISSED!!! HF called his mom and we played the messages for her and his dad. His mother (that was her sister) is FUMING MAD!!! I don't know what happened yet but I know I was upset for a while. Am I wrong for being upset???

OMG!!!! I am actually speechless!!! I honestly dropped my jaw as I read your post. Is you FI's aunt on some sort of medication? Becauase if not, she should be!!! She is out of her MIND!!!

OMG!!!!! Some people have some nerve I am so sorry you are going through this basically she is saying that your day isn't special but her son's is. Ok so if she wants to throw a party for him why can't she do it the following weekend if she is worried that no one will show up. You have things scheduled its not like you wer ethinking of having your wedding on this date but you already set everything and she hasn't even began planning a party for her son so she should be more considerate and have the party the following week. I don't know how you are not calling her up and saying something to her.

Both FH and I thought she was kidding when we were listening to the message. FMIL and FFIL have appologized for her behavior. When I get home from work I'll find out from FMIL what happened and I'll keep you guys updated!!!!! Unreal.....

OMG sounds similar to the same crap I dealt with my brother and SIL. They said not to plan our wedding near September 06 because they have a wedding they have to be in for SIL's BF. I told them we'll pick whatever day suits us best regardless of when it is.
But to actually ask someone to change the date of their wedding because of a graduation??? It's called have a Coke and a smile and get over it!!!
You guys have put down deposits and purchased items and made plans. She hasn't done ANYTHING for some 'party' yet. And unless your wedding ends at 1am, his cousin still has plenty of time to go out and celebrate after the wedding with his friends!! For all she knows, he may not even want a party, he might want to go out with his friends!!
I don't know how you guys have kept your cool long enough to not call and scream bloody murder at her. I would have been dialing her number before the message even ended.

When FH and I got engaged at the end of April, we already had another special occasion in the family in the works. My nephew is to become a Bar Mitzvah on November 5th. Bar Mitzvah dates are non-negotiable as they coincide with a Jewish child's hebrew birthday and the Jewish calendar. We would have loved to have made the wedding in December, but knowing full well that we would have MANY of the same people attending as guests, we pushed the wedding to February. We did this so that my family would be able to budget money for travel and gifts in order to go to BOTH happy occasions. I would never have dreamed of stealing my nephew's thunder and taking guests from him and all of his hard work.
A wedding and a Bar Mitzvah often involve the same type of planning - catering, DJ's photography, etc as well as the same amounts of money. I would/could NEVER have thought to ask my sister to change her plans to accomodate me, it would have been selfish and inconsiderate.
Forgive my rant, I am still in amazement from the post when I read it early this morning.
