I'm not talking legally, but will you keep your maiden name at work?
I've established myself as Jane Doe in my career and I dont know if I want to start over as Jane Smith
It will be a hassle when clients are referring me or things are published about me.
ANyone else thinking about this?

Re: Your professional last name...
I completely agree and have made many business relationships with my name. I thought about keeping my maiden name professionally, but am not sure how it would work with direct deposit, 401K, etc. If I am legally changing my name I'll need to change it on my bank account, right?

Re: Your professional last name...
I'm changing it to his last name. It has nothing to do with how I feel about MY last name. I wish I could stay that forever. But I really feel, that for me, it's an extension of my commitment. But that's just the right way for me. It may not be right for other people.

I will be taking my FH's name. I think that if you take it, you should use it.

I'm taking his name all the way. But I completely understand those women who want to keep their names, nothing wrong with that!! To each her own!

I also agree. My unique last name insures me that if people see it they'll know its me. That will totally be lost with his name. I am going to try and keep my name at least at work and change it otherwise. But I also have no idea how that is going to work with pay and such.

I'm changing it. I'm not in a profession where it really matters. Except I do have to change it on my Brokers license...ugh...more work!

Yes. I'm a Reporter and I want to keep my bylines in the same name. My husband teases me though, he really wants to see his last name in the magazine I work for.

Re: Your professional last name...
I have a plain last name, I actually hate it and can't wait to get rid of it! I can't wait to change it and order business cards and send e-mails with it. When I change it to my FH's name, it will be one of the most common last names out there, but it's still better than my maiden one.
