Greek orthodox pre cana
Any greek brides, or girls marrying a greek guy I need some information. I just set up a time for my first pre cana class with the priest. It's different then catholic pre cana in that we only need to meet 3 times about an hour each. But i was curious what is discussed at these meetings? Anyone know?

Re: Greek orthodox pre cana
I am actually getting married in a greek church and we are meeting with the priest tonight so I can ask for you if you want. From what I've heard though you don't have to do a pre cana for it, i believe there is a book they give you. We are doing pre cana though in FH's church because they require us to even though we aren't getting married in their church.

Yes it's just with the priest. I guess it's less intense time wise, but I thought I should be prepared for what they talk about since FH is greek and I am not i didn't want to say the wrong thing..lol

Re: Greek orthodox pre cana
HelloI actually comleted this over the summer---it was just us and the priest and in the first hour, he dicussed the ceremony, then he had us do some homework--it took like 10 min and the next 2 times, we just dicussed why we wanted to get married and he gave us a test online to do and it questioned each of us sep and in diff order about do we fight, do we hold grudes, is one violent--all that stuff---and then we discussed the responses---FH and I matched on pretty much everything and that is all they really want
It was so not bad at all

Hello :)I think it depends on the Church. St. Nick's in Flushing requires 3 classes from what I can remember, St. Paul's in Hempstead where I got married does not. We met with the Priest to fill out paperwork and when I asked him about the 3 classes... his response to me was 'you don't need classes to find out if you are meant for eachother... you should already know.' With that said... I think I still would have wanted to go to the classes... a little soul searching never hurt anyone. I thought we were going to have to go through confession as well... no of that though.
Good luck whatever it turns out to be!
(and just as a side note explaination: I'm annoulak's MOH... hence the name... she's always telling me suggestions and what not from the site, so I figured why not get ideas to help the planning from the source!)

I like him! Father Luke is very nice.
When we attended it was Father Kim... so we met with him and he performed our ceremony. A wonderful man but I guess that night he was in a rush!

He seems great every time I've spoken to him on the phone he has been so nice. The only thing I am concerned about is the length of the ceremony. I want to see if maybe we can either make it a little shorter or if they will allow seats up there. I know me and I cannot stand in a church for 40 minutes without feeling like I was going to pass out! and then on top of that the catholic priest is going to give a reading and a blessing so I feel like it is going to go on forever!!

Again... this is one of those 'i think it depends on the priest' kind of things. I'm pretty sure they won't say you can make a 20 minute ceremony out of a 40 minute ceremony... but depending on the priest, some seem to go faster. (maybe some talk faster.. i'm not sure why it happens that way) I've been in 40 minute ceremonies, and i've been in hour long ceremonies. We had a guest Priest at our ceremony as well... a friend of the family, and they both did sections, once each, or together... so it did go a little longer. No chairs. Dont worry... you get to break up the monotany by walking around a table a few times!
Speaking of fainting... my sister passed out at my wedding... my advice... Please please please EAT before you go. If that happens, the only seat you get is one of the pews off to the side!

ive never seen that done, i know the standing up part has significance so i dont know if they'll allow it. From what i know most of the things in the orthodox ceremony have to be as is and cant be changed. ANother thing is ive seen some girls on here wish they said vows to eachother but again dont think it would be allowed even if asked

Re: Greek orthodox pre cana
I think it depends on the priest if you are allowed to add vows. FH and I both want that. As for the sitting i totally agree...even if it's just the bridal party. I feel bad making them stand! This is what I was told about the legth....There are parts of the ceremony that can't be chaged. Each part has it's own thing...what makes it longer is if each thing has to be said in English and Greek. I know me and my family want as little greek as possible, but there are some parts that have to be in greek, and if you want them repeated in English that adds time. I have been told it will be about an hour. I am totally nervous about standing there the whole time. I just hope my BP can sit...but who knows.
