I know I'm not here often anymore, but I just needed somewhere to say my goodbye...(UPDATED again 9/24/11)
To our furbaby, Chewie. Yesterday, after a few weeks (following almost a year) of significant deterioration, we took Chewie to the vet. Not only has he lost 25% of his body weight in about 5 months (down to 6 lbs, from 8 lbs - major for a tiny guy), the tests show that he is in the beginning stages of kidney failure and has a large, growing benign brain tumor that is causing serious dementia and discomfort. There isn't much that can be done, so we have made the decision to put him to sleep
. Don't know exactly when yet, but in the next week or so. We know its the right decision, but he's our baby and I'm going to miss him!Thanks for listening!
UPDATE 9/17:
Thank you guys so much for the love and support. Our appointment to put Chewman to sleep is next Saturday. I thought we should do it sooner and not drag it out but DH is having a really rough time with this and needed more time to come to terms with it. Thankfully, Chewie isn't in pain, just confused most of the time, so we're doing everything we can to make this week easy, comfortable and happy for him (we even brought him home a big chunk of filet mignon last night!). I'm sure I'll post again next week - at which point I'll be a wreck - but for now its just our time to love him and say goodbye.
UPDATE AGAIN
Goodbye to our sweet boy Chew. He went to sleep for good earlier today. Thank you all for your love and support. He will be missed.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for you guys. Im literally sitting at my desk tearing up thinking about this post. That is the hardest decision to have to make and you are doing the right thing but having to say goodbye is so hard to do. Our dogs are like our kids so I can imagine exactly what you are feeling. If you ever need to talk about it you can FM me. Im a huge dog lover and I'll be here if you want to talk.

Awww Mer!!!!!!! My heart absolutely breaks for you. It's such a tough time to go through but just know that you are making the right decision. There are no words to console you but just know that you and DH are in my thoughts and prayers.
