need new baby gift ideas

my BIL and his FW are having a baby, and are finding out the sex of the baby today


I want to get them a little something special since they're OOT and I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend the baby shower in December. This isn't the baby shower gift- just a little gift to celebrate the fact its a boy/girl.

any ideas or websites to check out?

I always do cute diaper cakes ... Its a bit of work but really makes a statement! Etsy has tons of stuff. What about sweet decorative birp cloths? Super cute!

someone here suggested the month onesy stickers and i LOVED the idea (etsy has a ton of them too) - not sure if it's the best gift for right now vs for a baby shower though:

im getting a friend a time out chair--- not usuable in the first year but i think it's cute


for a past friend i did a bookshelf and mini rocking chair set for the baby girl--- decorated it with wooden cutouts of different animals (butterflies, dragonflies, turtles, etc) that i painted

I would stay away from decorations--if they are anything like me, any decorations I got were either returned or put in the closet. It's not that I didn't appreciate them, I just had a specific vision for what I wanted my first born's room to look like .

Aden + Anais makes the BEST swaddling blankets...every parent I know loooves them! They come in all sorts of patterns, and are a great gift! Hooded towels are also great, and I'm sure you can find nice soft ones in pink or blue!

I have said this before and I'll say it again, when you buy stuff like that is suggested, it's just stuff. While thankful for it, I have returned so much of it. I have casts that I'll never use and piggy bank that I have to dust once a week.

Aden and Anais swaddle blankets are fantastic. Stay clear from any clothing, they go through that so quickly, it will make your head spin. Get something for them because it will be the last time something is about them.

thanks to roz's post about the peanut butter crumbs cupcake, I ended up getting them a sampler pack of cupcakes from crumbs for them to enjoy!! It was so hard to resist not ordering a pack for myself

I was in B&N the other day and they had all these really ornate versions of classic books- Anne Rice, Charles Dickens, etc. They also had the Complete Grimm Fairy Tales collection. It was only $20 and thought it would be a really cool and different kind of gift.
