Need workout motivation

Now that the wedding is over I can't get my behind in gear!

I gained 1/2 the weight I lost for the wedding back in just 6 weeks. You would think that summer AKA Bathing Suit weather would be enough of a motivator, but it isn't. I'll just avoid pools & the beach.

What are some things that keep you motivated??
Help!

Re: Need workout motivation

I'm not good with motivation, but trust me, you're not alone. I gained back all the weight I lost for the wedding, too. But after about 6 months of being a fat, lazy wife, I got my asss in gear and now I'm just about back to my wedding weight! I'm only 2 lbs. more and that's REALLY okay with me.

ETA: Good luck! Just give yourself time to be less worn out from the wedding and the months of starving and exercising like a maniac!

Re: Need workout motivation

I just motivated myself yesterday. I looked at the scale and saw my weight going up and got sooo annoyed with myself. Plus I'm imagining myself in by bathing suit and was not happy w/ the image (I stood naked in front of a mirror for confirmation lol)

So, as of today, I got this app from MyFitness Pal that measures my calorie intake a day and the hubby and I are going back to the gym tonight. Just gotta do it - that's my only motivation!

Re: Need workout motivation

I try to focus on the overall health benefits of working out (heart health, better sleep, etc). But I also focus on the physical benefits. Also, I just generally feel better when I am active and in a good routine with working out.

I love to be outside once the weather gets nice so while I do mostly cross training during the winter I am re-incorporating running into my weekly routine.

Swimming is an amazing overall workout if you have access to a pool! I swam competitively growing up and my body was smokin!

I think the trick is finding stuff you enjoy. If the gym isn't for you....then it isn't for you! There are TONS of other activities you can do to burn fat.

My husband shared a trick with me years ago that really helps. On sunday night, plan out your week in terms of working out. And as adelzzzz mentioned, part of it is just DOING IT!!!

Plus, the beach & pool are so darn fun.....it isn't worth avoiding either!

ETA: As I re-read my post I realized that one part I left out is wanting to look good for my husband! It isn't an insecurity thing....it is a genuine feeling of wanting to look good and healthy for him. Maybe it is just me....but it contributes to my overall motivation.

Re: Need workout motivation

I was a fatty at my wedding but I gained 20lbs since my wedding.
I started weight watchers online AGAIN back in March and lost 20lbs so far.

Re: Need workout motivation

-Find workouts you enjoy. I love to keep variety in my workouts. I run, take classes, lift weights, etc. I'm constantly trying to vary my gym routine.

-Set realistic goals. I love goal setting. I signed up for a 10k race and had so much fun I took up running and ended up running 2 half marathons!

-Make fun workout mixes. Good music always motivates me.

After awhile you might just be addicted to fitness like I am Just take it slow and easy at first and gradually build up. Find things you love to do and keep with it!

Re: Need workout motivation

thanks ladies

Totally started WW again as of yesterday (had to get over the holiday weekend first) and began working out on Monday (Biked 6 miles)

I just feel like living out here (originally from Brooklyn), I drive everywhere, I don't live around all of my friends anymore so I find it difficult. I used to walk the park with my friend Anthony. Go to the gym with another, etc. Now I'm missing the motivation I used to get from them.

I'm gonna go with the Sunday night plan you're week ahead deal. It seems I can set realistic workout goals this way.

Thanks again

Re: Need workout motivation

WW really is great. Just have to get back to counting and separating my meals again. It gets easier after the first week.

I live in W. Babylon right now and Hopefully
Moving mid July.

I have a bike But won't go riding alone in the trails over here - too many crazies) And Like to walk the dogs or even just go walking. But again, wont go alone because of the crazies LOL (Had a bad experience walking alone in the middle of the afternoon a long time ago so I won't do it again)

Today my workout will be dancing with Just Dance 2 in my den!
You sweat your a$$ off with that gamwe

I agree with all of the above!

I'm actually in better shape than I was at my wedding, I fell in love with certain workouts I did for my wedding and have kept them up since!

My personal experience is classes is a great way to get motivated. I'm competitive so I want to do well in a class with everyone around me. Look for classes that are high energy, with fun teachers, and good music.

I'm lucky that my DH is into fitness too. He keeps me motivated as he goes to the gym 5-6 times a week. Get hubby to go with you!

I recently started running more and though I used to be bored by it, I have a great running playlist and races on my calendar in the near future to motivate me. For example, I'm doing my first 10K July 9th and I want to break a certain time doing it so I'm training toward that goal.

Good luck!
