*~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

First off, thank you Ilana for passing the tiara on to me. Woohoo!

I missed posting yesterday because DH and I were busy painting our kitchen. It went from an off-white to poppy orange with celery trim

This brings me to my question...when there is stuff to do around the house, are you and your DH the type to get right into it and work together to get 'er done or would you prefer to pay someone else to take care of it?

DH and I have done lots of that kind of stuff around the house...the only time we called in the professionals is when there was a flood upstairs and we got water damage. That was one thing we didn't know much about. I learned a lot of skills through building stages and sets for performances; DH learned his skills by watching and helping his dad with that kind of stuff over the years.

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We will do everything ourselves, unless we have to call professionals. DH and his friends completely gutted and renovated our house before we moved in.

For most things DH will say that I can't do it and will make sure he does all the things around the house before I can get to them. He doesn't realize that me and my sister were the ones to do them all at my moms before I moved out

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We do mostly everything ourselves. We painted the house ourselves (with help from my dad) and DH and my dad just ripped up our kitchen floor Friday night and then he and his dad re-tiled on Saturday. He also installed my new kitchen faucet for me himself and will be installing the new appliances this weekend when they're delivered.

The only thing we've called professionals for so far is to refinish the hardwood floors just before we moved in.

FIL owns a commercial electrical and plumbing company so he's VERY handy. DH used to work with him, so he's learned a lot from him and continues to learn. Sometimes I'd rather call and just pay for it to get things done quicker, but it saves SO much money

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We're lucky to have alot of blue collar workers in our families who are VERY good with getting things done around the house.

FFIL actually built our entire apartment for us basically from scratch. What was 3 bedrooms became 1 bedroom, 1 kitchen and a bath. He the super of his building so he does stuff like this for a living. We honestly wouldnt have an apartment without him. So...if we need anything we can call him. My uncles and father are really good around the house, and DH is good.

I stick with the decorating and cleaning.

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We do everything ourselves. In fact, the house we rent now is my great uncle's house. He's elderly and in a nursin home with little immediate family left. His closest living relative, a niece and his power of attorney, lives in NJ and didn't want to be bothered to take care of the house (which was in bad, bad disrepair) and the elderly tenant in the upstairs apartment.

DH and I agreed to take care of renovating the house in exchange for paying nominal rent/utilities. We also act as live in landlords for the tenant upstairs. I wish I had the before and after photos on my computer. The house had awful green shag carpet, fake gold antique furniture, an outdated kitchen and bathroom and overgrown yard. We ripped up all the carpeting and found pretty nice wood floors. DH refinished them. We cleaned out all the old junk, repainted, got new furniture, tore out the bathroom appliances and put in newer ones. The only thing we didn't DIY was the kitchen because that needed plumbing and electrical and the niece who had power of attorney was uncomfortable with the idea. She paid Home Depot a ridiculous amount of money for the half asssed job they did. We could've done it ourselves for half the price! Whatever!

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

DH and I usually call in the pros! DH has a lot of fantastic qualities but being handy isn't one of them. I, on the other hand, am the exact opposite. I can fix just about anything. However, that crushes DH's delicate male ego.

I would do everything myself but honestly don't have the time. I do schedule projects for when DH is working weekends though. Like the next weekend he's working, I'm replacing all the doorknobs and hinges in the house. The old owners had the brass look. I want them all to be brushed nickel. DH started hemming and hawing when I mentioned it. I only do home projects when he's not home.

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We do what we can, but we know our limits. If we want something done right, we'll call a professional. Like for instance, we're quite capable of painting, but with our new house, we're going to have someone do it so we don't mess up the floors. DH is not very... um... neat.

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We do everything ourselves. DH is an engineer and use to do construction, he literally can fix anything and I absolutely love that about him. We just remodeled our entire kitchen, down to new sheetrock, new floors, new cabinets, everything. My father also helps us if we need more help.

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

We currently live in an apartment in my parents house so when major work needs to be done my dad does it & teachs DH along the way. (DH wants to build his own house one day & my dad did so he has alot to learn).

When DH & I wanted to paint our living room & kitchen, DH & I did it with help from our friend.

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

Well, we don't own a house...but between DH, my father and I we could probably do most things ourselves. We accidentally busted the door frame in one of our bedrooms and DH and my Dad fixed it for like $15

Re: *~*~*¿NWQOTD Tuesday 9/7?*~*~*

Dh can fix or build almost anything, but he works crazy hours now and doesn't have time to do much. On the other hand, I am completely incompetent with anything repair related. So at this point, the answer is hire the pros.

Same! DH is very good at calling our super though

In all honestly when we have a house, it will be a team effort but I'm pretty sure I'll be taking charge. DH isn't really the most handy.
