Suggest your realtor... please!
I want to start looking at houses on Long Island in Suffolk. I don't know where to start or what to do. I never even rented my own place!Do they show you places right away, can you just walk in without an appointment. I'm really going into this blind.
TIA!

Re: Suggest your realtor... please!
I always look on MLSLI.com and then if you like a house you can just call and ask to see it or just go in search of open houses too if you'd like. I only know realtors in Nassau - but you don't necesarily need one to look at houses and you should not have to pay them anything. I went out to look at many houses with the first realtor I called from the house I saw on MLSLI. Have fun with it and if you don't like the person you end up choosing or working with, just call someone else .GL

thank you ladies! I stalk MLSLI, so i'm pretty familiar with it. I just didn't want a horrible Realtor when we decide to purchase. I'm still undecided on which neighborhood we want to go to.

I used Maria Pascaretti from Century 21 in Patchogue. She was really great as was everyone at the office. The owner helped us understand the finances and really made it easy to get a mortgage. Everyone made the home buying experience really easy!

Kristine Rudner at Netter in West Islip. I worked with her when searching for my house. She is young, energetic and fun to go out with. Plus she has a partner David so your really working with both of them and if one isn't available the other is. Many times if we were out with one the other would meet us there to see how we felt so they were in tune with what we were looking for.

You don't really need your own realtor. If you go through MLSI, you will just be going to see it with seller's realtor.
If you bring your own realtor, they split the same commission.

I tried doing it without a realtor at first and I found it SO SO SO frustrating. It was just so much easier to be able to send all the houses I liked to one realtor and have her handle it. Plus I felt comfortable during the offer, inspection, closing and everything knowing there was someone looking out for our interests over the sellers. She sold us up and when their were 4 offers the woman came to us, even though her realtor was someone else.
Plus going to see houses with the sellers realtors means more and more people calling you and trying to get you to look with them. Its really aggravating.
But one thing you can do it go to open houses and introduce yourself to realtors. If you find one you like start going through them.
