Survey stolen from parenting

I saw this poll whike lurking on the parenting board. How much do you spend for your nieces and nephews on Christmas presents?

I have 3 nieces and 1 nephew. I have always bought them all a ton for Christmas and actually birthdays too. For Christmas they each get a big gift, last year was a bike, a power wheels quad, a train table and a step 2 vanity. And then a bunch of clothes and other toys and also I make them each a stocking. I have to say I really brgain shop and find the best prices for what I want to buy. But even with that I usually end up spending about $250-$300 a kid.

From what I read on the parenting survey this is way more than what most people but for their nieces and nephews. Average seemed to be about $30 a kid.

So my question is how much do you spend per kid?

Re: Survey stolen from parenting

I don't have any nieces or nephews, but if I did I'd spend on them about what I spend on every other person 20-40 depending on what I feel like getting them that year.

Re: Survey stolen from parenting

In the past I've spent somewhere between $75 and $100 and I feel like it's a waste. Last year we bought DH's nephew a bike (SIL asked for it for him) and it was $150!!!!! I'm not doing that again. Especially now that we'll have our own child to support. I'm going to try to keep it to under $50 pp this year. And it'll be gifts from both of us instead of us each giving them gifts like in the past. It's just too much.

Re: Survey stolen from parenting

i don't have any blood-nieces or nephews, but DH has one of each .... we spend about $40 on each one for the holidays.

if it was my brother's children though, it'd probably be a little more that that

Re: Survey stolen from parenting

I have 2 nieces & 1 nephew. We do not have a set budget, we spend what we can. DH & I do a lot with the kids during the year & don't think a material gift is as important as spending time with them.
