Would you be a little weirded out?

When we first moved into our house, someone came and nailed a crucifix to our door when we weren't there. We left it there, because we have no problem with it...though I was weirded out that someone came up to our front door and nailed something to it...

Yesterday, I went outside and saw that someone spray painted 'USA' on our fence. The rain pretty much washed it away...

However, I don't really like this...we've only lived there for nine months and we've already had two incidences of someone coming onto our property...would you be a little freaked out or not worried? Is there anything I can even do?

UPDATE: Ummm I called the police department...I asked if it's something that I can file a report about it...when I finished telling the story...he said nothing. I said it again, and he was like 'Ok, I don't see how these things are related' with a bit of an attitude, I must say.

One of us lost service I guess or had a bad connection...he said 'Hello?' twice and then hung up. Lovelyyy

Re: Would you be a little weirded out?

OMG I would be totally weirded out by this! Who lived in this house before you? Maybe they weren't popular with the neighbors. Even though the cross is OK with you, it is such a huge violation! I wouldn't so much as even TAPE something to someones door (let alone someone I don't know), but to nail something as symbolic as a cross? This person has huge issues.

Put an ADT sticker on your windows even if you dont have ADT. (I bought some on ebay). Maybe that will keep them from getting on your property! Thats crazy!

I would be completely weirded out by that so much that i'd probably call the cops (for the cross thing, not the spray paint thing)

Re: Would you be a little weirded out?

I too would be concerned about this. If it happens again I would make a police report just to have a paper trail in case other things happen in the future. I'm not sure I would go as far as putting a security camera up (primarily cuz of $) but I def. might look into getting some type of security system. I forget, do you live in a house/apt/condo etc?

Re: Would you be a little weirded out?

The cross thing is freaky.

But as far as the spray paint goes, did other houses have that on their fences as well? That might've just been people celebrating and taking it a little too far.

We live in a house, so we can alter things if needed.

We're the only ones, but no one else has a fence that someone could spray paint.

I would be weirded out...I would talk to any of your neighbors that you know well enough and see what they know/think.

Re: Would you be a little weirded out?

That's a good idea...I think I will talk to the neighbors, since the cop I spoke to apparently does not care.

Re: Would you be a little weirded out?

I would DEF speak to my neighbors and see if this has happened to anyone else or who lived there before you. I would probably also call the cops again and HOPEFULLY get a different person or even go down to the precient to maybe explain it better in person. To me I would take those things as hate crimes towards people who have might have lived there before you. People are ignorant and before something bad happens (people are crazy) I would have it on paper. I would also call my home owners/renters insurance company and make a complaint so that they know it's happened before. I'm also a little paranoid when things keep happening like that to my property.

I do agree with Kris that maybe they were just celebrating a little too much but I would just be scared that something more would be done. First a cross NAILED to the door (forever putting a hole in the door) and then SPRAY PAINT on a fence (even if the rain took most of it down you'll probably have to hire Tom Sawyer to come paint the fence to get it all taken down), now what?

Re: Would you be a little weirded out?

I would totally be weirded out! I would definately put up cameras and ask the neighbors.
The cross thing is friggen SCARY!!! Who does that?? It reminds me of something out of the movies 'Carrie'. I get nervous walking up to someones front door, nevermind violating them by vandolizing they're property with nails, religious symbols, and spray paint!
