My 6/13/10 Wedding! Royalty Limo, Pedestals, Creative Comp, Royal Brass, Carltun, etc!
I’ll start from the worst and work my way up so that I don’t leave you all with a bad taste at the end!
Royalty Limo (Limousines)
Grade: D
Do they have bad attitudes at this place or what? From day one they were not pleasant to work with. Every time I called him (which was only like two times) I felt like I was bothering him. I thought…I’m sorry, but I’m paying you for this right? Anyway, I booked with them ONLY because they had the cars I wanted (New Bentley for B&G and Chrysler 300Ms for BP) at the best price of anyone I called. We did not have to deal with them much until right before the wedding. About 3 weeks out I called to confirm everything and see when my payment was due. Another rude member of their staff, answered the phone and told me not to worry about it someone would call a week before the wedding. I had booked these limos almost a year out – all I wanted was some piece of mind that things were in order. So I tried calling a week later and got someone on the phone (I believe Joe’s wife) who was nice and helpful and answered my earlier questions. The day of, the Bentley and one Chrysler came to me and the girls. The Bentley driver was superb. His attention to detail was so helpful. He was even trying to help my mother pin her dress at one point. But what was happening with the guys was a whole other story. The other Chrysler got to their house and my MIL popped her head in to see what it looked like. She noticed it was terribly hot inside and said something to the driver. He told her that he was planning to mention that the air conditioner was not working. Keep in mind our wedding day was in the mid 80’s and terribly humid! They told him that was unacceptable so he suggested that DH and the guys get in and go to the shop with him to get it fixed!!!!!! Yes, those words actually came out of his mouth. Not only were they not going to a car shop in their tuxes, but the ceremony was to begin an hour from that point! My BIL argued it out with them and they finally agreed to send a replacement car. The driver showed up a littler while later (thankfully the house was nearby) with a Mercedes Benz that was okay (at best) on the outside, but beat up and dirty on the inside. The bottom floor was torn up and the inside was just a mess. The guys made it to the church in plenty of time, with AC, but nevertheless the whole thing was unprofessional and inexcusable.

Re: 6/13/10 Royalty Limo, Pedestals, Creative Comp, Royal Brass, Carltun, etc!
Denise L*li (Veil)Grade: C
I gave this experience a C because of attitude/approach. I dealt with Christy (Denise’s daughter) when ordering my veil. We decided on a cathedral length with a fingertip and blusher. The cathedral and finger tip were to have crystals throughout. The price was set at $350 and we discussed what would happen if there were anything wrong with the color, style, etc when it came in. I was told that changing any of that was minor and they’d do it without a problem. Well, sure enough the veil came in too light in color (I had told Christy my dress was light ivory but she ordered Diamond White – that mistake was partly the fault of Priscilla of Boston for giving me a swatch that was not exact to the dress). So they changed the color for me and it was a perfect match. However, for the amount of money I paid I was surprised at how few crystals there were. I asked that they cut a yard off (it was a bit too long for my style dress) and add some crystals. Again, I was told ‘no problem’ and was set to pick it up a week or two later. A few days after we decided on those changes, Christy called to tell me there would be a $100 charge for additional crystals. What happened to no problem?? I told her I was not paying another $100 for an already expensive veil and she said there was nothing she could do. So I asked her what, exactly, I’d be getting for the $100. She replied with “I don’t know, I don’t count the crystals”. So I guess I was supposed to hand over more money and not even know whether they actually put more on? When I asked her how they came up with that price if she didn’t even know what was going to be added, she told me it was just a fixed price. Her attitude was horrible throughout this dealing. We ended up agreeing that she’d take however many crystals were removed when the yard was cut off and placing them on the veil. Whether or not they did that, I’ll never really know. There was no noticeable difference when I picked it up. Overall the product quality was good. It held up throughout the day and I was told (because I couldn’t see the back) that the crystals were shining very brightly in the church (I took off the cathedral for the reception).
Tuxedo Park (Tuxedos)
Grade: C
We went to Tuxedo Park for the first time in March. Harry, our salesman, was very nice and patient and picked helped us pick out great tuxes for DH, the BP and the fathers. Not too long before the wedding I went with my step-father for his measurements and Harry wasn’t available so we had to deal with someone else. This person was clearly incapable of doing measurements. He put my SF in a shirt that was about 3x his size and insisted it was perfect. We had to tell him which size he needed to get and pretty much do everything ourselves from there. Also while there, we decided to change the color of the father’s ties. They made the change in the paperwork and off we went! A week or two later DH had to be re-measured because he had lost a few pounds. So we went back again to that and when I got there, I saw on the sheet that the father’s changes were never made and they had listed gold cufflinks for the BP when it was supposed to be silver. I called a few days later to make sure the changes were set and they told us they were. Two days before the wedding DH and I went to pick up his tux. He went in the fitting room, came out and my jaw dropped (but not in a good way). I instantly saw that the vest was completely wrong. It was hideous and I knew I would never have picked it. I told the staff who pulled the chart and confirmed the fact that they had given him the wrong vest. Being very uncomfortable with the fact that there was a mistake two days before the wedding, I had them pull all the rest of the sets (BP and father’s) for me to see. Wouldn’t you know, they all had GOLD cufflinks! I had them change out the cufflinks on the spot and I sorted through everything else and confirmed it was all right. I give them a C because if I hadn’t checked the paperwork for the father’s ties or gone with DH for his pickup and insisted on checking everything – all the guys would have had something that was wrong! With those corrections made all the guys were an A+ (and it doesn’t hurt their grade that they had yummy snacks in the store every time we went in!)

The Wedding Co of Manhasset (Seating Cards)Grade: B
My sister was very helpful and offered to take care of the seating cards for us. I gave her the excel sheet of names and tables and she chose The Wedding Company for the design. They settled on small ivory boxes, filled with candied almonds, tied with a pink rose on top and then a label with the name and table number. She ordered them about three weeks out from the wedding. Two weeks out we got a call that the roses were out of stock so we’d have to choose an alternate one; and so we did. The weekend before the wedding we called to let them know we’d be in that Wednesday to pick them up, at which point we found out the boxes hadn’t come in yet! And once they did, they’d take a couple of days to put together. To make another long story short, there was a lot of back and forth in figuring out whether they’d even be there in time and what plan B was (they would make regular tent cards which could be done same day). I was dropping all of my things to the RH on Friday so I told them whatever we ended up with it had to be ready by close of business on Thursday. Well, the boxes came in Thursday morning! To their credit, they really rushed in loading, tying and labeling the boxes and had them done at 7pm that Thursday. They came out beautiful and I’m glad we were able to have them in time.
Here's a pic of them still in the box - not displayed yet:

Carina Boutique in Whitestone (Shoes/Color Dying)Grade: B+
Carina is the cutest little wedding boutique in Whitestone and I use them often for BM gown fittings, jewelry etc. So I decided to have them dye my white shoes to light ivory to match my gown. I dropped them off and they were ready for pick up a week later. As soon as I opened the box I noticed they looked yellow! I commented on it but they swore it was the same as the swatch (which was an actual piece of my dress). I brought the shoes to my fitting the next day and sure enough, it did not match at all. So I called the boutique and explained what happened and they, without hesitation, said they’d try to get them the right color and if they couldn’t, they’d order me a new pair of the same shoes and dye them again. They weren’t able to fix the first pair so they did order new ones and dyed them to exactly the right color! And they did all that in two weeks time. Although a mistake was made, it was quickly, easily and correctly fixed!

Make-up & HairGrade: A
I cannot give names for because both people that worked with me do this work privately (FM me if you want their info). But I will say that the make-up artist got in a car accident on the way to my hotel that morning and she was more worried about getting to me than about the accident! She showed up 30 min late because of it and still did an AMAZING job on me, my mother and my sister. You never would have known what a rough start she had to the day! And my hair stylist – what can I say? Love her. I told her my biggest fear was the veil falling out because it was SO heavy. She assured me that would not happen on her clock and it didn’t! In fact, I had trouble getting it out at the end of the night! My hair stayed for the most part but it was a brutally humid day so there was only so much I could do to keep it looking decent. I was very happy with it nonetheless!
La Quinta (Hotel for Guests and B&G on wedding night)
Grade: A
La Quinta was great to work with! I started by dealing with Tyleen who basically just implemented the block and reserved the meeting room for brunch. We dealt with Danielle for a bit while they were looking for a group sales replacement for Tyleen. Once Joanne came onboard we dealt with her and it was always a pleasure! When she first started, she pulled our file and we went over all of the details to be sure she was onboard with what we needed. The day after the booking cutoff, one of my guests called and wanted a room and she helped us book it even though the block had expired. The rooms were clean and the suites were very spacious. We stayed in 501 and there was enough room the day of the wedding for me to get my hair and makeup done there, have the whole BP meet up and have the photographer and videographer take pictures/video! They even have a hook for the gown in the ceiling! They supplied shuttle service to and from our RH, they sent champagne and chocolates on our wedding night and set up for brunch the next morning. We paid extra to have a hot breakfast – and that’s the only thing that was slightly less than perfect. The eggs were ‘okay’ at best – but that’s the fault of the deli they ordered them from. If you have brunch there, I suggest requesting they order from somewhere else. Otherwise – it’s a great place for your wedding block!
Pedestals (Flowers)
Grade: A
I worked with Nadia at Pedestals and she was great! From day one she was enthusiastic and had great ideas. I told her my thoughts on what I wanted and she gave her opinion as to whether or not she thought it would work. My girls were wearing navy blue so I wanted pink bouquets to lighten it up a bit since it was a summer wedding – but I didn’t want everything to become overly pink so we came up with other accent colors to make it all come together. We threw in white, celery green and different shades of pink and incorporated that into all of our pieces. In total they did petals for the cones, two church pieces, 8 bouquets (me & BP), 2 mother clutches, 2 corsages for the grandmothers, 8 boutonnieres (BP and fathers), CH and 14 tables for the RH (7 high and 7 low). In between placing the order and the wedding we had a few minor changes here and there which Nadia took care of without a problem. When I went for my sample a few weeks before the wedding the CPs were a little bit ‘whiter’ than I wanted them to be so we pulled some of the whites and added some more light pinks and even a touch of lavender. We put tucked banana leaves around the bottom and it ended up being exactly like I envisioned. Nadia welcomed the changes and took pictures to be sure they got it right the day of. She was even able to show me a sample of my bouquet because someone had ordered the same one and it was being made that weekend. We also went in the day before the wedding to see all of the bouquets. They were so colorful and lively – exactly what I needed to brighten the navy gowns! When I saw mine, I decided it needed some more crystals so she went in the back and had it done on the spot! Everything was delivered on time on the wedding day and set up just as we had discussed. The church and ball room looked great (although once there I realized all highs would have been much better but by then it was too late!) I can’t say I quite remember seeing what they did in CH but hopefully someone will have pictures of it so I can see! The only reason I am not giving an A+ is because someone posted pictures of the flowers on my shared site and some of the flowers in the CPs were browning. I did not notice it the day-of but I really was not paying much attention to those particulars, and I do not know if maybe those photos were from the end of the night; but either way they should have held up a little better than that and I have made a mental note to ask a couple of people if there were a lot that were wilting. Once I find out, I’ll update this section! Otherwise they do deserve the A+.

Priscilla of Boston (Gown, BM Gowns & Earrings)Grade: A+
Wedding dress hunting started out to be one of the most difficult aspects of wedding for me. I knew what I did not want, ball gown, A-line, trumpet, mermaid. That pretty much ruled out everything but sheathe. Then there were my fabric restrictions which pretty much excluded everything except silk. Of course it had to be sleeveless, ivory and the list goes on. Basically, I did not want a wedding dress! I went to SO many stores and left (sometimes in tears) horrified by the concept of having to wear a wedding gown. I went to Priscilla of Boston in Manhattan one day, knowing my sister bought a fabulous dress there the year before (which I would have bought if she hadn’t already) and the sales girl (can’t remember her name now) basically told me they did not have what I was looking for. We searched and searched and NOTHING. Finally she remembered something she had in the back that might fit my requirements. She pulled out the Melissa Sweet ‘Sophia’ which was just weeks away from being retired and I tried it on and actually had a moment where I thought I might be able to wear a wedding gown! Of course I could not commit yet, so I left without it. I decided to give it another look and made the appt at the Roslyn location so that my mother could come with me. When I tried it on that day my mother was hesitant. It did not have any glitz and glamour so we just were not sure. Shouldn’t I be shining on my wedding day? I proceeded to go back THREE more times (Marlene, my sales person was very patient) before I decided to get it. I never had the ‘this is it’ moment but I did have an ‘I can make this work’ moment. I placed the order in Oct 09 and in Jan 10 I got ‘the call’. Even though it was too soon for a fitting I went in to try it on. I brought 8 pairs of shoes, 4 necklaces and multiple hair pieces and they let me stay in the fitting room as long as I wanted to see what worked. Marlene even kept popping in to give her opinion on my shoes! I had two fittings and the final try-on after that. They took it in, hemmed it up, added the bustle and altered the neckline to perfection. During my second fitting, which was the day before my bridal shower (unbeknownst to me) Marlene even played along with my sister giving me surprise flowers and an invitation to my party! While there, I found a dress for the Shower which they quickly fitted for me and I was set for the next day! I bought my day of earrings there too (they have some beautiful Haute Bride pieces there). In between all of this, of course, I chose BM gowns from the Vineyard collection in Navy Blue. I had 7 girls and each couldn’t say enough how much they loved the gowns and would be able to use them again some day! I know this is too long for a ‘review’ but I had to express how picky and annoying I was and how patient and wonderful they were. They turned a dreadful experience for me into one of the best parts of planning! DH loved my dress that day and so did I. The silk shone so brightly in the lights that it ended up not needing a single crystal on it. The gown had a timeless beauty, which is exactly (as it turns out) what I wanted.
Sweet Nut Hut (Invitations)
Grade: A+
Invitations were another touchy subject for me because I wanted something different, yet still elegant, but within a reasonable price range. I went to many places and did end up finding an invitation I liked. However, I did not care for the place. So my mother suggested the Sweet Nut Hut in Deer Park. When I got there, I dealt with Cathy who was so nice off the bat! She listened to exactly what I wanted and was even able to pull the invite I had found at the other store. We were there for a while but finally decided to go with that one. Cathy took her time going over all of the details and making sure it was just what we wanted. The proofs were in within 2-3 business days, we worked on corrections and the final order arrived about 2 weeks from the order date. Well, wouldn’t you know that there was a change related to the wedding and the invitations now needed a correction?!? We called Cathy and she was immediately willing to help. The change only affected one piece of the invitation so she was able to order that piece only in the exact amount we needed. The re-print came in about a week later and my mother went to pick them up (location-wise she was closer to the store). About 2-3 weeks later it was time to stuff those envelopes! I got to my mother’s house, opened the re-prints and noticed right away that the ink looked slightly smudged on all of them (almost like when you print a fast draft on your print instead of best quality). I emailed Cathy (on Easter Sunday) and she responded nearly right away. She knew the option would be to order more reprints, but I really did not have time because the invites needed to go out that week. She and I talked it over for another day or two and I decided to just work with what I had due to time restraints, but she was ready to help had I decided to do something about it. Overall we had a couple of bumps but SNH gets an A+ because the glitches were not at all their fault and they were always willing/able to help.
La Confetteria del Coure (BM Swarovski Necklaces & Wedding Favors)
Grade: A+
My family and I shop at La Confetteria quite frequently, so it was not unusual for us to go there for the BP gifts and Wedding Favors. They offer great pricing on Swarovski pieces so I went ahead and ordered necklaces for the BP. They were in one week after I placed the order! I found favors there that I fell in love with but I waited too long to order them and they ended up on backorder by the manufacturer until after the wedding! So, they found me an alternate piece with the same pattern that I was really nice! They placed the order right away as to not take a chance that they would end up on backorder too – and when they arrived 8 weeks before the wedding, they held all of the pieces for me. I selected the wrapping and ribbon which they include as part of the order (with almonds and all!) The week before the wedding I picked them up and they looked great! They even helped us load all of the boxes into the truck! Another great experience at La Confetteria!
St. Kevin RC Church (Ceremony)
Grade: A
St. Kevin RC Church in Flushing is an absolutely beautiful Church! The front entrance is spacious so when the weather is bad, people aren’t crowded. It has one of the longest aisles I’ve ever seen, all in marble and the alter is decorated so nicely! We dealt with Father Lou from the very beginning and he was so patient and kind. He explained everything step-by-step and welcomed our calls any time we needed anything. The church organist, Tom, was so nice and so funny! When we met with him he played us samples of his music and it gave me chills! I was comfortable the whole time that it would be a beautiful ceremony. Rehearsal was with a different Tom and he was very nice as well. Although, he sort of over complicated things; he made us run through the whole rehearsal twice and was going over it in a bit too much detail. I could have done without that, but it was not a big deal. The day-of, the organist played the music along with the trumpeters beautifully and the whole ceremony felt surreal. I will say that Father Lou went through the ceremony very quickly. I wish he had slowed down a bit. I didn’t have a mass so we were in and out in 30 min. If I would have known it would be so short I would have added the mass – I was afraid the mass would make it too long. That is the only reason I didn’t give it an A+ - so St Kevin girls, be sure to ask the length of the ceremony! The whole day goes so quickly that you don’t want to rush anything!

Royal Brass (Trumpeters)Grade: A+
Who wouldn’t love Rodger Lee?! Back in 2008 my sister was a couple of weeks away from getting married when we went to visit her church. There was a wedding there that day and they had trumpeters! My sister loved them and regretted that she hadn’t booked any. So, I decided I had to get them for her! My mother knew a few names since she’s in the wedding business, so I called around and came across Rodger. He was the best price of anyone and was willing to change his schedule around to fit my sister’s wedding in! She was so surprised that day and we loved them so much I knew I had to book them too! I booked back in June of 09 for our June 10 wedding. About 6 weeks before the wedding, Rodger contacted me to confirm and to set an appointment to go over music. We drove out to his house/office and he played some music for us and made some great suggestions. I’m not sure how we got on the subject but we came to find that he practices healing techniques on the side and when I told him I have back issues, he did a session with me right on the spot! (I’m planning to go back to him for more at some point!). After I met with the church organist I called Rodger back to confirm our music and that was all we had to do! He and another trumpeter were prompt and played wonderfully at the church and at the RH just as guests arrived for CH. I absolutely love Royal Brass and only hope I have some reason to need trumpeters again in the future!

Table 9 of Glen Cove (Rehearsal Dinner)Grade: A+
I LOVE Table 9! We had our engagement dinner there exactly one year prior to the wedding and Mark, the manager, was so accomodating. He molded the menu to make it exactly what we wanted and didn't even charge extra for the things we were adding or being picky about. He did the exact same for our RD. In both instances we reserved one of the rooms upstairs because the group was 30+ so we wanted a private area. When we got there the room was set up so nicely. The service was everything we needed - even though we were separate from the rest of the restaurant, the staff was attentive and helpful. The food was great both times. We had choices of chicken parm, steak, fish, pork, etc. Not to mention apps, salad, pasta and dessert. Both parties were fantastic and I can't wait to have an excuse to have another one there!
Creative Compositions (Photographer & Videographer) ****UPDATED in another post on this thread****
Grade: A+10
I chose Creative Compositions because Ernie photographed my mother/step-father’s wedding last year and he was such a pleasure to work with. He made us laugh and enjoy taking pictures and the end results were great! We set an appointment with Ernie in summer 09 Ernie and went to his office in Oyster Bay. We sat in a room that he has set up like a nice living room – couches, tv, etc and flipped through sample books and watched sample videos. He made us so comfortable letting us know he really wanted to get to know us and what we like so he could get the right shots on the wedding day. We booked shortly thereafter and then scheduled our engagement shoot….which we ended up rescheduling on poor Ernie like 5 times because it had to be done during the work day and our work arrangements kept getting interrupted! We finally set a date and he suggested we just walk around town and find different patterns and textures to shoot with. He had us climbing on things and standing in crazy positions just to get the right shot. We used brick walls, flowers, steel, concrete, etc and ended up with the perfect variety of colors and backgrounds. We absolutely loved our engagement shots and ended up displaying a bunch of them at the wedding. We met up with him one more time before the wedding to go over the photo/video details and then we were set! On the wedding day, Ernie made us SO relaxed. He saw everything around us as an opportunity for a shot – even the rain! (and let me mention that the rain shots are some of our favorites!) We climbed on pillars, he laid in on-coming traffic for the right angle, we did everything you can imagine and our pictures are THE BEST! What I liked about Ernie besides his creativity was that we never felt overwhelmed by him. He took the shots and then let us do our thing. He was quick, efficient, light-hearted, fun, everything we wanted in a photographer. We didn’t have any interaction with the videographer before the wedding – Ernie handled it all – but he was great the day of. To be honest, I hardly noticed he was there but he always was! I will have to comment more once we have our video in hand. Loved, loved, loved Creative Comp!

Voices (Band)Grade: A+10
What can I possibly say about Voices Band to explain how great they are? Angelo Venuto (who you may know from KTU and from going to clubs) and his band are the BEST! They are an Italian/American band who can play anything that you request. I threw a lot of new music at them and they didn’t flinch (for ex I picked music from: Pit Bull, Josh Groban, Jason Mraz, Michael Buble, Black Eyed Peas, Train, Michelle Williams, etc). They played their hits – remix of Ti Amo, Sweet Caroline, etc which got everyone out of their seats. DH’s 89 year old grandmother even got on the floor! They are not your typical wedding band at all. They play current music and the prerecord some of the background so you don’t end up with 20 songs that all sound the same. People were raving that they’d never danced so much at a wedding in their lives; DH and I didn’t sit once either. I cannot say enough about them. They are pricey – but worth every penny. In my opinion, the band can make or break the night and Voices certainly made ours.

Re: 6/13/10 Royalty Limo, Pedestals, Creative Comp, Royal Brass, Carltun, etc!
The Carltun (Reception)Grade: A+10
Ahhhhhhhhhh The Carltun; IMO the best catering hall in Long Island. I’ve been to a lot of weddings, parties, etc. and I even searched around at different places for our wedding, but no other place has the full package – beautiful grounds, amazing food, attentive staff, one wedding at a time, well designed rooms, etc. We booked The Carltun in May of ‘09 for June ’10 and did not really need to interact with them much for a while after. The next thing on the agenda (besides payments, of course) was our tasting which we did in early May. The Carltun is the only catering hall I’ve ever gone to where I finish my plate clean! We loved everything they served us that night and narrowed down our choices only because we had to. A week after the tasting we went back to choose our menu and finalize details. We chose a great variety of stations cocktail hour which included Italian, Hawaiian, Mediterranean, and more. During CH they also had huge assortment of passed hors d’oeuvers including lamb chops, stuffed mushrooms, spanikopita, coconut shrimp and so much more! For our salad we chose a raspberry walnut salad, and for dinner chicken with polenta, filet mignon and Chilean seabass for the main meal. We did the intermezzo (painters pallet) while everyone was dancing. For the cake we chose a chocolate truffle with fresh berries and viennese hour we chose cakes, pies, ice cream sundaes, bananas foster and on and on and we added in cigars for everyone at the end of the night. Over the course of the next few weeks everyone there was so helpful as we changed our seating arrangements a million times, dealt with final payments, went over details such as setting up a stage for the band and other vendor information, dropping off favors, seating cards, etc. When we pulled up that day, the maitre’d and bridal attendant were outside waiting for us with champagne. They helped us out of the car and we did not lift a finger from that point on! They made sure we had food and drinks, helped with requests from the bridal party, ran around finding family members when we needed them to, got us all lined up for our entrance into the ballroom, were there for every need throughout the reception ie: raising the AC when DH and I were roasting from dancing so much, changing the lighting when I wanted it a drop darker, communicating with the band when I had a question, etc. The food was impeccable that night just as everything else they did was. The cake came out beautiful and tasted great too! The Carltun staff were right on time with every target we had for the night from beginning to end. At the end of the night I was all packed up and ready to go without even batting an eye. They had everything ready for me when I was set to walk out the door. I have zero complaints about the Carltun.
