My November 2 Wedding Review
I'm hoping I remember everything, and if anyone has questions, please feel free to FM me. The day was beautiful, and I had a great time!Bridgeview Yacht Club: A+
Kathy and Mike were a pleasure to work with. They accomodated my requests, and they were pretty good about returning my calls in a timely manner.
My guests said the food was excellent, and the cocktail hour (I was told) was magnificent as well. I had a Mickey/Minnie theme, and the chef (Miguel) carved the melons into Mickey and Minnie and carved a pumpkin into Cinderella's coach. He also carved a bouquet of flowers out of vegetables b/c I'm allergic to flowers. He did beautiful work!
The bridal attendant was very efficient. My only gripe with her was that she seemed more concerned with rushing me along to meet the timeline than anything else (she even took me away from guests when I was talking to them). That I did NOT like at all! Overall, she got us whatever we needed and was on top of things.
Ric Mango Orchestra B+
We got many compliments from our guests about the band. I personally noticed that they were not playing more than they were, but if no one else noticed, that's what matters! Their music was good, though I regret not spending more time sitting with Ric to discuss SPECIFICALLY what songs I wanted played - my fault. I did mention a few, but he didn't play them all. Also, it was pointed out to me that during the breaks, they played the same CD and some guests actually heard the same song THREE different times! All in all, Ric did get people to dance, got them going and he wasn't obnoxious at all. But I definitely do NOT think we got our money's worth (they were expensive).
Jack and Rose F
I was VERY disappointed with Jack and Rose and regret my decision wholeheartedly! After meeting with Jack for over two hours at 9:00 at night, he DIDN'T even do the work for my wedding (though he indicated that HE WOULD be doing it). After sending in our deposit, I didn't hear from Jack EVEN ONCE - NOT EVEN to this day! He pushed us off on his co-worker in the Queens shop (who did a very sloppy job), and I was truly disappointed. Also, NO ONE (not Jack or Patty) showed up at my church or my hall on my wedding day - only a deliveryman. Additionally, I have grave issues with his business ethic as a whole. If anyone wants details, please FM me.
Perceptions Photography B+
Got proofs back, and they look very nice! Overall, Anthony and Leslie were very pleasant. My only negative comment is that based on other brides' posts about their photographers, mine didn't stay with me the 'typical' amount of time or until the end of the reception, but I have to check my contract to make sure that is accurate.
Bridal Reflections Massapequa B-
My dress was beautiful, but I wasn't pleased with the seamstresses work (forgot her name). My dress was falling down in the front a little as the day went on (no, I hadn't lost weight - lol). I also was very annoyed with the nasty attitudes of the night time people at the front desk when I went for my fittings. They were very rude and only cared about how much you had to pay. My final complaint was that when I went to pick the dress up, I made the mistake of NOT taking the whole dress out (I just looked at the parts that I knew needed to be altered). When I got home (to Bayside), there was a stain on the side/back that I hadn't seen. I then had to go back the next day to have them remove it. They insinuated that it was
me who must have stained it!
Simply Elegant - Invitations A+++
Gail was wonderful! She gave me good prices and was patient with all my font changes. She got the invitations (and then extra response) cards in a VERY timely manner. She is great to work with and very professional and friendly!
Christy and Co. Bayside - Hair/Makeup C-
My hair/makeup came out okay, but I was appalled at the rudeness and disorganization of the people at the front desk. They did NOTHING to accomodate the 'bride' on my wedding day. I asked for water, and they told me they didn't have it - that I could go a few stores down if I wanted it!! Then they made me wait a half hour in between hair and makeup (even though I DID have an appointment). VERY RUDE!!!
Ultimate Class Limos A+
No complaints at all! Requested Janice, and she was wonderful! Two towncars home were great too and all of the drivers were excellent and friendly!
Royal Brass A+++
Wonderful as well! Scott was very professional and helpful from the first phone call to the last time we spoke at church. They were wonderful, and it was a pleasure to work with them!
Murphy & Co. - Florist A++++++++
I had to go to them for my silk bouquet (I'm highly allergic to flowers), because Jack and Rose could not accomodate me (FM me for more detailed info). Kevin was wonderful! He did EXACTLY what I wanted (even better), and the flowers did NOT look even one bit fake! I absolultely loved loved loved them! He was great to work with and didn't insist that I get real flowers or make me feel funny for asking for silk ones. He understood my dilema, and was professional, accomodating and friendly. Also, he didn't try to 'sell' himself. His work speaks for itself. I should have gone to him for all my flowers. ALWAYS follow your gut instinct!!
I'd like to thank all the girls for their advice and ideas - especially Marcellabella!!!
Please FM if you want any further details.

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Minniebride,Thank you for sending me FM regarding Perceptions. I was wondering if you had put anything in your contract about how long he should stay? I will talk to him as it gets closer to my wedding. I am really surprised to read about Jack and Rose- I have heard such great things about his work.
Congrats on your day! It sounds like it went well despite some minor glitches.

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Congrats! It's so funny what you said about Christie's, I go there to get my haircut and lately I've been getting so annoyed when I go there. The women that work at the desk are pretty rude. Sorry you had to deal with that on your wedding day. Well anyway, congrats Mrs!

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Groovypeg,I think he did, but I was just basing it on the other brides' time limits with their photographers. As I said, they were very nice though. I can't wait to get the pics back. I'll keep you posted!!
I was VERY surprised to have this experience with J&R. I have absolutely NO reason at all to lie about him or them. So, whoever wants to believe me can. Otherwise, who cares. I know what happened, and I will take the necessary steps to rectify it.
Thanks!!

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Jenn, in all fairness, is a vendor going to say, 'Well, she thinks I suck'?Congrats on your day, Minnie, and thanks for a review that gives some opinions other than perfection all the way around. I'm sorry you had any disappointment in your day, but I'm sure you won't remember those things in years to come and only the happy memories will be left.

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Jenn, I'm sorry, but unfortunately Jack gave you false information- for obvious reasons. Jack could never possibly say I was pleased, b/c I never said that.And, again, Jack hadn't even spoken with me since the first (and only) time I met with him, which was roughly the end of July, so there was no possible way I could have told him I was pleased (or otherwise) with anything. I called MANY times to speak with him, but he NEVER called back.
Once again, I have absolutely NOTHING to gain by lying about this.
Thank you.

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Thanks, Jann! My day was beautiful despite the few flaws.I posted honest reviews, b/c that is exactly what I wanted to hear when I was considering what vendors to use. I needed to know people's 'real' experiences.

Re: My November 2 Wedding Review
Minniebride, I am happy you enjoyed your day but I understand exactly about your complaints. I used to get my hair done at Christy and Company in Bay Terrace. They treat you like you are 'cattle' they are too busy and make you sit around with soaking hair in the middle of everyone. I will never use them again. Now I use Joseph Christopher Salon, in Long Beach. Same price and so relaxing. As for Jack and Rose Florists, I never met with Jack. His receptionist or whomever she was from queens was the most ignorant and annoying person I have experienced in a long time. She turned me off so much, that i lost my trust in the company immediately. It seems they do 'bulk' the more the better and I don't like that philosphy....I rather have someone care ...like John From Florist Michele. Anyway, you live and you learn and now you have a lifetime of happiness in your new marriage to look forward to.

Minnie...I have nothing to add about the Jack story...but I used to go to Christie's in Bayside to get my haircut and hightlights as well. I hate it there. Everytime I went...I would always say, 'I'm never coming back here again'. They were very rude, they put that stupid slip of paper in your sleeve because they can't remember your name...Oh well. I'm glad you had a great day despite the few hiccups. Post some pics soon!!!
