Allegracristina's AMAZING June 5, 2009 Royalton Wedding, Featuring Blue Daisy, Spitz + Peck, Eclipse Entertainment, Priscilla of Boston, A Bridal Paperie, Invitations and Beyond, and more!
Better late than never, as they say! Yes, it has taken me almost a full year to complete my review. My main reason for even doing a review, is to help any future brides on LIW, as so many past brides have helped me.I would like to say THANK YOU to LIW: Ron, Kim, Liz you are all amazing people who have touched our lives greatly! Thank you so much for the amazing websites you created and run for all of us to benefit from.
Without further adieu, my review:
Invitations: A Bridal Paperie: A+
Judy from A Bridal Paperie (
www.abridalpaperie.com ) was the absolute best, most knowledgeable wedding vendor I worked with throughout the wedding process. She has been in the business for over 30 years, and can make absolutely anything for any budget. They do only thermography, or raised printing. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted: A 3 layer invitation, featuring both my colors, and ivory paper. Also I know I wanted a bow of some sort, to tie in my theme. With Judy, I got my invitations, inner and outer envelopes (outer printed with return address), printed rsvp cards with printed envelopes, all for about $4.80 per invitation. I would recommend Judy to anyone looking for an experienced printer, who is not a middleman.

Dress: Priscilla of Boston Vineyard Collection, Roslyn Salon (now in Manhasset): A+
I knew finding the perfect wedding gown would not be an easy task for me. I consider myself a very unique person in terms of personal style, and if I could, I would have commissioned Betsey Johnson to design me the sea of tulle creation of my dreams. But alas, the 20K was not in the cards.
I set out to find something that was ME. Growing up in Roslyn Heights, I always passed the Priscilla of Boston store right by my house. I decided to go look on their website, after going to a wedding of a family friend whose gown was Priscilla. Right on the front page was a gown called Maeve that SCREAMED ALLEGRA! It was a sweetheart top, taffeta ballgown with a big white bow and tails. I called the salon right away and I came in that day. Maeve was the first gown of many, that I tried on. It was while trying it on that I started thinking of how to customize the dress more. I was not thrilled with the white bow, it got lost in the gown and was too plain for me. I was still on the hunt for bright, berry colored bridesmaid dresses, which I had mentioned to Kathy. She went in the back and came out with the brightest fuchsia purple color I've ever seen, and I loved it! It had a BIG bow on the back, and I asked to see the seamstress. Their seamstress Josephine came down, and we spoke about creating a custom bright purple sash and bow and tails for my gown. She said she could do it, we just had to order the extra yards of fabric. This was going to be my dress! But of course with any dress that you customize, it is always a question mark, and a bit anxiety causing until the end product. My end product was AMAZING. Here is the gown in it's original form, and then the final product. Cups were added to the gown, as well as taking it in many times up top and in the waist. The bustle was a traditional one button over bustle.

Bridesmaid Dresses: Melissa Sweet by Priscilla of Boston, Roslyn Salon: A+
Once I realized that Melissa Sweet carried the two exact colors I wanted for my bm dresses (a lush grass green, and a bright purple fuchsia), I started looking at the styles. I LOVED how many short dresses they had. I knew I wanted my bm in short dresses, and my 13 y.o jbm in a long gown. I wanted her to feel grown up and elegant, and I wanted my bm to have a fun, young vibe to them. I narrowed it down to 4 styles of dresses, and left it up to the girls to decide. I had a maid of honor, matron of honor, 4 bm and a jbm. I did decide on the colors the girls would wear, with their input. SIL is a redhead and requested the green, my maid of honor requested the green, my bff requested the purple...It all worked out great. As far as picking the styles, the girls ALL picked the same dress except one! I picked the style for the jbm because there was only really one appropriate floor length gown for her age, the rest were very mature imo. Right away I realized that the Melissa Sweet dresses were not cheap. DH and I (FH at the time lol) sat down and decided that we would factor that cost into our budget as the girls' gift. We didn't want to lose anyone based on expenses-we wanted our whole group to have a great time and not have to worry about a $250+ dress, plus alterations and travel and all that. We had 3 out of state girls. So although it was a huge expense, EVERYONE was SO grateful and happy and guess what? We didn't lose one bm! I also made special custom garment bags for the girls, and presented their dresses to them in the garment bags at my shower. Since we had a maid and matron of honor that were in two different states, my shower was planned. The girls LOVED the garment bags, and were so happy. They all took care of their own alterations. I got 10% off the dresses for having purchased my gown at the salon. We ordered the bm dresses and the fabric for my sash, bow and tails at the same time. Here are the pics!

After Party Dress: Sarah Seven (www.sarahseven.com): A+
I had bought a dress for my after party, but then my mom sent me a link to this designer and I fell in love with her Powdered Sugar Dress. She custom makes the dress for you, to your exact measurements. This dress was more of a real bridal after party dress, imo, than my first pick (which I ended up wearing to my RD). The dress fit like a glove, and was a huge hit. My main excuse for needing a second dress, was that I was the drummer in our Rock Band group, for the after party! Couldn't drum in that big ol ballgown now! It does take 6-8 weeks to make, and she was able to get me mine in just 6 weeks. I think I got it like 4 days before the wedding!

Groom's Tie and GM Pocket Squares: Etsy Vendor Me and Matilda: A
I found this vendor on etsy, and she made me a special listing for a tie for DH and the pocket squares for his groomsmen. We wanted a very classic look for our men, and decided to order our bm fabric in some extra yardage in order to make a green tie for DH and alternating color pocket squares for his guys. Their PS corresponded to the color of the dress of their walking partner. This vendor was great, but it did take a little long to get the final product, and sometimes communication was a little slow, but nothing bad at all. She was really great. Here are pics:

Accessories: Haute Bride (purchased through POB Roslyn): A+
I got my necklace and bracelet from Haute Bride, ordered through POB so I could get my 10%
The necklace was very simple crystal cluster with a pearl drop, and the bracelet was a 3 strand pearl bracelet with crystal brooch in the center. I was very happy with them, especially for the prices, which I found very reasonable.

Hair accessories: Etsy vendor ButterflyEnchantress: A+
I bought multiple hair flowers from this vendor in my quest to find the perfect one, and at $40-$50 bucks a pop, it was ouch! But I found the one I was happy with. The crystal hair pins were purchased on Broadway in the city for like $2 a piece lol.

Shoes: Stuart Weitzman though MyGlassSlipper.com: A+
I knew I wanted a high shoe with a nice platform, but could not afford the Loubotins I dreamed of! I found these amazing classic Stuart Weitzmans for half the cost, and they rocked! I ordered them through Zappos.com to try in ivory (they don't carry them in white for some reason??) and they were perfect. So I ordered the white pair through MyGlassSlipper who had them.

Shoe Dyeing: Sandy's Shoes: A-
I took my shoes along with a fabric swatch of my bow fabric to Sandy's to have my shoes dyed. It took 2 weeks and cost $20. I give them an A because there was a small water mark on the shoes after further inspection at home. It was not a big deal at all. I loved the outcome, and my shoes were a big hit!

Tuxes: Men's Wearhouse Plainview Location: B+
We had a lot of OOT GM so we decided early on to go with MW. We had heard much better things about the Plainview location than any other location so we went there. Setting up the account and picking everything was very easy. Ana was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. When it came to getting our tuxes on the day of, it turned out that DH's shirt was ENORMOUS! Of course he didn't realize this until it was too late. Not the end of the world at all. Other than that everything was great with them.
Hand Calligraphy for Invitation Envelopes, and Place cards: Calligraphy by Michele: A++
[email protected]
I found Michelle on that other wedding site that I stopped going on after I came here.
I booked her in November for my June wedding, and she only had ONE spot left. She books up fast. She was an absolute pleasure to work with. We went to Staten Island to drop off the envelopes to her, and she is just a doll. As far as the place cards go, I asked her if she could do a purple and green flourish under the names, like what I had in my menu. When I received the cards, I couldn't believe it, but I didn't like them! They were too 'hand done' if that makes sense. I don't want to say messy, because obviously they were done with immense care, but let's say that the green/purple ink didn't look as good as it did printed from a computer. Michelle was trying to replace them for free I couldn't have her do that! I was the one who asked for them like that, it's not her fault I didn't like them! So we agreed and she did it for half price, but I still ended up sending her a check for a little more. She was great. I don't have a good pic of the envelopes, sorry.
Favors: Mint tins: eventblossom.com:A+
We picked our favors through I company I have a wholesale account with, so it was really cheap! My boss let me sign up for it through my job. We bought the mints from ACandyStore.com (A+) and put the stickers on the tins, and filled them ourselves, a few days before the wedding. They were a huge hit as well!

Match Boxes: ForYourParty.com: A+
This company was great, they got me my match boxes in just 2 weeks at a busy time. I don't believe I have any good pics, but they were gold with our names in purple ink. Loved them!
Menus and Programs: Invitations and Beyond, Jessica: A+
I knew I could make both of these things myself, but had absolutely no desire, or time, or anything, to do them! I won 100 free menus at the 09 Bridal Shower, and was really excited to use them. I contacted Jessica about 4 weeks out from my wedding, just as soon as my menu was finalized. She was SO nice, even though I had won a prize for most of my menus. I ended up buying another 65 menus, because I needed more than 100. When I was there, I also looked into programs, and fell in love. WOW! Jessica was able to custom make exactly what I wanted for my programs, and I was so happy. They weren't exactly cheap, at $3.25 each I believe (I provided the ribbon), but they were worth every single penny. I would recommend Jessica to anyone!

Custom Dyed Sand for Sand Ceremony: The Sand Bin (ebay) A+
Yes, I had custom dyed sand. My whole wedding was purple and green, and there was NO purple and green sand! I couldn't believe it (neither could DH
) but I had found a custom sand dyeing company!! It cost me about $25 to have 2 lbs of each color made, I believe. I sent them my fabric swatches from POB, and they dyed my sand! It now sits on our mantle in our vessel, we love it.
Cardbox: For the Modern Bride: A+
I knew immediately after seeing their creations that I wanted one of their card boxes. I was looking to do a very simple, 3 present card box. Once DH got involved, it turned into a 5-7 present extravaganza! And I loved every inch of it! He said, hey for the money, why not make it outstanding! And it was! I, unlike others, did not mind that it arrived the week of the wedding. I had so much wedding stuff in my house, I didn't want another thing in there until it was time! My designer Zoe created my box, and made the middle layer like my dress!

DIY: Slipper Baskets, Petal Cones, BM Garment Bags
I'm not going to rate these, other than to say my DH gets an A+ for helping soooo much with the petal cones!

Hair: StevenRobert Salon, Great Neck: Michelle: A+
Michelle has been cutting and styling my hair for about 8 years. I've been going to StevenRobert for just as long. Robert is my colorist and an owner, and AMAZING! So I knew that Michelle would be doing my day of hair. I went to the salon with one of my bm and we had our hair done at 1 pm on that Friday. It took less than 2 hours. I had only one trial, and I loved my result.
Makeup: Chanté Cutter: A+
Chanté was recommended to me by Michelle, my hair stylist. She said 'She's not cheap, but she's amazing' and she was right. I was a makeup artist for years when I first started in retail, and I'm extremely picky about my makeup. I don't wear a lot every day, but I do like it to be perfect when I'm all done up. I had two trials with Chanté, because I wanted to try different looks. I was so happy with my makeup, it was traditional foundation, which I wanted. I wanted to glow on my wedding day, and that look was achieved by the high quality silicone based foundation that Chanté uses. She does great lash extensions as well, as part of her trials. She did my makeup, as well as the 4 of my bm. I also used her for my day after pics.

Flowers: Spitz and Peck, Huntington location, Wade: A+
After meeting with one floral vendor that left us completely unhappy, we were apprehensive to meet with S+P. The Royalton forces you into one of two florists, unless you buy out of that deal. We were THRILLED with Wade, and his expertise. He immediately 'got' my vision (bright magenta orchids, lots of branches) and set to work figuring out a plan for us. In the end we ended up spending a few thousand dollars more than we wanted to, but it was worth it for SUCH amazing flowers. We had magenta dendrobium orchids, green hydrangea, ivory roses, branches, and banana leaves in the cp's and arrangements. The bm bouquets were a mix of ivory and green roses, and dendrobium. My bouquet was green cymbidium orchids, magenta orchids, ivory roses, and pops of green berries. DH's bout was a magenta dendrobium and green berries.

Videography: Mark David Productions: A-
With video, we got just what we really wanted at the time. Simple video coverage. Unfortunately about 12 weeks before the wedding, I started realizing that I wanted a more cinematographic video, but a that point it was too late. I'm SO happy we DID get a video, because we were contemplating leaving it out.
Officiant: Father Joe DiVincenzo: B+
I really hate to rate an officiant, but this one cost quite a bit of money, and was not affiliated with a Church. We loved Father Joe at our meetings, and really hit it off with him. Unfortunately, the day of the wedding there were a few things that were not so terrific that merited the rating he got. The most important being that he 'forgot' the Lord's Prayer. I am STILL hearing about this from my mother. The second thing is during the wine ceremony, he took the glass from us after we had each sipped it, and CHUGGED IT DOWN! I know it was supposed to be a funny joke, but it was a little shocking. Especially because the Lord's Prayer was supposed to come right after that and never did
Other than those two things, he was a great guy, and a great officiant. LaQuinta Inn and Suites: Room Block and Shuttle: A
I had no problems with LaQuinta whatsoever. Tyleen was a dream to work with, and set everything up for us. We added on two trips to the shuttle service, and it worked out great.
DJ/MC/Lighting: Michael from Eclipse Entertainment:A-
We absolutely loved Michael and everything he did for us. He made our lighting amazing, he kept people on the dance floor the entire night, he was a classy MC that was used to doing a lot of high end Manhattan events. Everything was great about our DJ except that somehow he got our Do Not Play list mixed up, and actually PLAYED our entire Do Not Play list!!! I was NOT happy, let's just say that. Luckily it happened right at the end of the night when DH was in the CH room setting up the Rock band for the after party, but he still heard it and wasn't happy either. I would still recommend them to anyone, because everyone makes mistakes, and they are an amazing company.
Here are some pics of their sick lighting, and the guests breakin it down!:

Photography: Mariann from Blue Daisy Weddings: A+++
What can I say about Mariann that hasn't been said before? She is just an amazing genius behind the lens. She works her magic with color and light, and uses the life and expression of her subjects to make magic. I knew as soon as I saw her work, that I wanted her for our wedding photographer. We were lucky enough that she wasn't booked for our date, and we secured her right away. We got the first package that included an album for us, and added on an extra hour for the after party. She actually asked our permission to bring an assistant (of course we said no problem!), and she ended up bringing TWO! So we got SOOOO many great shots. Mariann is just a dream to work with, and I would recommend her to anyone.

Ceremony, Reception, and After Party: The Royalton Mansion, Roslyn: A-
We looked at literally 12 different places from Wading River to Manhattan, had 3 tastings, and finally booked the Royalton. This was truly the place for us. Each wedding was customized to the couple, every menu, every item, even the wines. We were able to come in for a wine tasting, and select all of the wines that would be served at our event, as per the request of my Mom. He was even able to procure Toso, an Argentinian sparkling wine/champagne that my Mom hadn't been able to find in decades! My Mom was an event planner for the UN for two decades, and is extremely picky and difficult to please. With my parents paying for the reception, she had a lot of say. Gerard at the Royalton took care of each and every one of her concerns, and he took care of them in stride, no matter how embarrassing it was to me! Gerard was a great pleasure to work with, and someone I consider a true professional in the industry. Our menu was just spectacular, especially the dinner. Filet mignon with roasted fingerling potatoes, panko encrusted Chilean sea bass with lobster risotto, and a roasted French cut chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus. AMAZING! We had a mashed potato bar, a grill with Chimicurri skirt steak for my mom (who is Argentinian, if you hadn't guessed), grilled shrimp and snapper, grilled chicken, a huge Tuscany table, cheeses and more. We also had a sorbet intermezzo, which wowed everyone. They came out onto the dance floor with it, it did not interrupt the dancing at all. The Royalton made our wedding cake, included in our package. It was red velvet with cream cheese filling and fondant iced. For the after party, we had mini cheeseburgers, pulled pork sliders, fresh baked cookies and milk, and a candy bar.
The reason for the minus grade, is because the Royalton royally messed up our Groom's cake which was a surprise, and part of DH's wedding present. I was not happy, but thankfully they made right, and refunded my money ($$$ not pocket change) in the end. I won't go into details because it was taken care of. I will say that you should always follow up and follow up again, no matter how many times you think you've followed up. Another reason for the minus grade is the after party food was not laid out well at all. It was at the back of the bar, hidden by a large column. Most people didn't know it was there until it had been out for an hour or more.
I also want to add a special section on the Bridal Attendant Faviola. She was literally my life saver, by my side, a true gem and I was so lucky to have her. She was Spanish speaking, which was great for my family. She was always next to me, not like other RH where the Bridal Attendants many times double as waitstaff. She always had water for me (I was sick boooo!!), and she did whatever I needed to be comfortable. Poor woman even helped me in and out of my dress when I had to go potty!! I would highly recommend Faviola (in fact I did for KerriJohnS who also had her) to ANY Royalton bride. Make sure you bring an extra $100 at least to tip her though, because she really deserves it. I am so thankful for her. Gracias Fav!!!
Here are my gorgeous Royalton pics:

I almost forgot!
Rehearsal Dinner: Soundview Cafe, Glen Cove: A+
We are family friends with the owners, and this is a choice for many family events. We love the food, the service is great, the location is great, it's just an elegant and nice place. We had a great plated menu, chosen by DH and I, thanks to his amazing parents. We gave out our family and BP gifts, and it was a great time for all! We did it the Wednesday before our Friday wedding.

That's DH and our Best man who stopped in to say hi because he was working and couldn't come!!
That's all everyone! I hope you enjoy it, and it helps you!

Thank you!!! Honestly I have no problem selling that second dress, because there's no way I will EVER fit in it again! It's made to fit 34', 25', 36' I think. The RD dress is a PROM dress!!!!
It's by a designer called Sherri Hill, and I bought it at Teen Pix in Syosset!!
You can buy Sherri Hill online, but I wasn't able to find any stores that had a return policy. They were all final sale, and I wanted to try it. Good luck!!Thanks to all the other ladies who replied so far!! Thank you so much!!
