would you tell the truth?

would you tell the truth?

If a bride posted here saying 'here's a picture of my dress what do you think?' or 'I just booked my RH its _________' would you give your honest opinion? I'm just curious because whenever someone posts something, everyone always says how beautiful it is. I'm not thinking of anything specific so don't freak if you just posted your invite pic or something. I'm just asking in general: how honest are we? Frankly, I don't know if I would say I hated something, unless someone asked to choose between two options, even then I wouldn't say 'Oh pick two because one is horrible!'

Re: would you tell the truth?

If something is not posed as a question, but rather just a picture of a dress/shoes/whatever, and it's something that I personally don't like, I just don't respond at all.

Now....there are plenty of threads that I've not responded to about dresses/shoes/whatever and that doesn't mean I don't like them. LIW is a 24/7 operation, and we all have lives. Realistically, we're not on the site all the time, and we all miss out on posts.

However, if something is posed as a question; ie., 'I'm thinking of booking _______, anyone have experience with them?' - if I had a bad experience, I will tell the person via FM about it. They asked for input, I gave it.

When something is an either/or (invite 1 vs. invite 2), then I'll give my input as well. Again, they're asking.

So, back to the question...I prefer to go the 'if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all' route.

What a great poll/question!! I've already read various threads with other brides posting 'here is my dress!' or 'check out my shoes!' or 'what do you think of my new invites?' and honestly, I think some of them are just hideous. Like this picture of a bride on the 2010 board where she is a little heavy-set but her dress just doesn't flatter her at all..

I usually don't say anything because who am I to judge? I would just think that if there are only 5 posts saying 'congrats!' instead of 50 posts saying the same, that would give me enough of a hint that its not that great.

settle down girls. I'm not ready to pounce or anything. I just didn't see why it was necessary to specify that. It's rude

Re: would you tell the truth?

I would never say I didn't like someone's dress or hair/makeup or something like that. I might give an honest review on an RH if I had been there and had first hand experience. To be completely honest, I usually would just not respond if I didn't like something. What's the point in telling someone you didn't like their dress? I wouldn't want to intentionally hurt anyone.

I adhere to the same philosophy
and as Kris said if its a question I answer the best I can w/o trying to hurt anyones feelings. b/c if in person something might sound nice and innocent in writing w/o seeing someone's face reactions/expressions this might be taken the wrong way and sound rude
this is a board for support, not being critical and hurtful after all
