Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
Hi guys... I'm a newbie, but this site has been sooooooo helpful to me! Thanks to everyone!A little about us...
my name is Sue
my FH is Sean
wedding date is Oct. 2004
...working on booking The North Ritz club as we speak! LOVE IT!
My FH and I are both Police Officers, and I so understand what you are going through! I love to meet people who aren't cops, because some of us are tired of hearing the same old stuff also...
The female cops can be a tough crowd... I've been told by girlfriends who are in your situation that they can be downright rude! My suggestion is to find the ones like us in the group who are open to other types of conversation. Most cops have adventurous type hobbies (skydiving, skiing, etc.)
so you can't go wrong in trying to change the subject to something of that nature...
Hope I was of some help!
You can always ask me anything about the job...
I'm here for you guys!
Oh yeah! you can get those panties on EBAY...LOL

Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
Hi Sioux!Thank you for your advice. I have found most female cops to be gruff and hard to get to know. Although one of my DH's friends wives who is a cop is very much like me in personality, and we get along great!
So you can get the panties on E-bay?! Yay!!! LOL... I just tried finding them on the web and couldn't. Hear that girls? EBAY!!
Surprise your hubbies! LOL!!
Thanks again Sioux! Congrats and welcome to the boards!

Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
Sorry to disappoint anyone on this board, but I am a female, not my husband pretending to be me. I am so sorry you all missed the humor in what I wrote, instead you all choose to bash me.Karen, the reality of our husband's job is that this is what they talk about all the time. I really did mean for you to try and get to know your husband better with the whole thing with the gun. If that is not your deal then fine.
for all those gun control freaks out there, when will you get the point that even if you make guns unavailable to the average person, THE CRIMINALS WILL STILL HAVE GUNS. okay that being said I have been going to target practice since I was a little girl, but I am not a butch. I enjoy my time with my husband and his buddies, even when I have heard the story 20 times. these are their war stories, all men do it.
if you would like me to have my husband discuss this further, I'll ask him to come in and join the chat. enjoy the night!

Just to jump on the lingo band wagon for a second, my favorite term is '90 Zebra' (or something Zebra...
), which I think means 'the perps left when we arrived on the scene'. I just like the Zebra part... it cracks me up!

Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
Mrs C - What some of the girls, I think were saying on here is that there is other things in life to talk about and other people to socialize with. My husband is a police officer. I dont see his friends as often as it used to be, so now I enjoy it more when I see them. Have your husband join in? Why? Sounds like you dont stand on your own and need to have your husband come on for you. Sounds like you live through your husband and his life. Not to come across rude, but from the sound of your post, sounds like you dont have a life other than him.Why are you new on here? Either you are a regular that is not strong enough to voice your opinion through your real screen name or you are someone that is 'bored'.

Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
Margie (Mrs.C).This is the part of your post I took with offense.
all i can really say to you is, how can what your husband does really be boring? perhaps you bore them.
Re-reading your post I can see that you have had years of experience dealing with this situation, and maybe you genuinely meant well. There is some good advice in your post, but I think the part about me being boring because I'm not interested in the NYPD so much that I want to talk about it every minute got my panties in a twist.
Whether it's the NYPD, or doctors, or brick layers, I feel that when you are at a social function, it is rude to continuously discuss things that leave others out. The fact that NO attempt is made by the cops to get to know people OUTSIDE their profession makes me feel like I am not important to them. They are only interested in themselves and their jobs. That, to me, makes them one-sided and boring.
Not to mention a lot of their conversations are about things I'd rather not listen to. Their attitudes and lack of compassion in certain situations, the things they laugh at (while I know it's part of a coping mechanism) bothers me and upsets me sometimes.
Maybe if they would look outside themselves and their jobs a little more often, they would have a more open minded view of things, and have a little more to offer in terms of conversation.
I compare it to going to a party or function where everybody starts talking Italian or Spanish or whatever even though they know English perfectly well. They know you don't understand the language, but they make no attempt to include you. It's rude.
It's especially uncalled for to bring up work-related matters when I'm on vacation with my DH at Disney, or at our engagement party, or our wedding for pete's sake! I mean don't they EVER stop?
That's what I was complaining about, and your post kind of same across that I should adjust to it and like it because it's my husband's life. I'm sure he will never want to sit around with a bunch of ladies and talk about cross-stitching for hours on end. Why should I be expected to listen to something that not only bores me, but upsets me at times?
I've decided that whenever the situation presents itself again, if my attempts to change the conversation don't work, I'm going to wander off and find someone else who is just as lost and bored as me. If I can't find anybody, then I will help the hostess in the kitchen. I think sitting there bored to tears is unhealthy both for me and for my relationship with my DH. So it's up to me to find a way to make the most out of these situations.

Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
I agree with Karen in that you did have some useful input, but implying that we bore our husbands it's just WRONG. Like I mentioned earlier in my posts, there is a way to get people to LISTEN to the advice you are trying to give w/o offending anyone. Indeed you had a point - valid I may add (getting to know the job), but it's all in the presentation that counts. I don't understand why you are hiding behind a name... I think that if you came on here and spoke your mind appropriately, you would've gotten a great response and maybe actually taught a lesson or two.

Re: A Question for Police Wives (and anyone else who wants to answer)...
I still think she' a troll in a wanna be policeman's uniform. Settle down there, Annie Oakley. No one was discrediting you and your shooting skills. No need to bring your husband or whatever on here since our pathetic discussions over pocketbooks and interior design will no doubt bore him to tears. Maybe we should spice things up:Pepper Spray vs. Tear Gas - pro's and con's of both..
Or...
