Anti-American School?

Anti-American School?

I couldnt believe what my friend told me the other day. She is a teacher at a school in Rhode Island and she told me they are not allowed to sing the National Anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance. When she first started working there, she said she brought it up and it was like a taboo subject. The principal actually told her that we as Americans have nothing to be proud of so its not allowed. She even told me a music teacher was fired for not listening to this rule and allowing his children to sing 'American' songs. One of her fellow co-workers is from England and she told her people in England laugh at us Americans for our 'American pride' and its ridiculous. This really infuriated me. I cant believe this is how our schools are being run nowadays.

It absolutely disgusts me that this is allowed! And people wonder why I want to send my kids to catholic school!

Honestly- and I hope this dosen't start a fight, BUT its because of groups like the ACLU that work on banning these things in school. Its a slap in the face to the people that have come before us and have bled for the freedom that we have in this country that they ABUSE by not allowing 'American' anthems to be sung in schools!

WHAT OTHER COUNTRY WOULD ALLOW THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR???!!!! think about it!

People like that should just leave honestly- if you don't like the country that much to say we have nothing to be proud of than WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE????!!!!

GOD it makes me so mad!

Yeah they've taken out the pledge of allegiance from MANY schools. I HATE this and really do not understand this. We live in AMerica and it is ridiculous that we cant say our own national anthem or pledge of allegiance. I really dont get this. I am sorry but this isn't against those of different religions who feel they cant say it. I remember when i was in school, some muslim kids would walk out of the room before the pledge of allegiance bc they said they couldn't say it, ok fine that is your belief and we have to respect others. We compromise and are understanding but when it comes to americans own traditions it gets thrown out. Some people say they get offended bc they cant be part of it you live in America, how do you come here thinking americans should stop their own traditions for you, i am sorry but that is wrong. If i moved to another country then i would respect the other country for their traditions, it would be crazy for me to go to a school there and say 'oh i am not comfortable with your traditions and you need to stop' who does that. This issue just really bothers me. Are kids not allowed to celebrate x-mas at school either, its going too far.

Thats exactly what I said. I said WHY ARE THEY HERE?? Move to Cuba where you would be SHOT if they found out you were talking about your own country this way. I told her to tell them its 'freedom of speech' that allows them to disrespect their own country. UNBELIEVABLE. And I will be the first to say, sometimes things that go on with this country piss me off but its because I feel like our country can be so much better right now. Its a passion not a hatred. And for this to be allowed is ridiculous. I remember when I was younger enjoying the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. It still gives me a warm feeling remembering these school rituals. I bet majority of children nowadays dont even know the WORDS!!!

ITA! Ok granted the US has made some stupid choices in foreign diplomacy lately but if we as citizens stop trying not to 'hurt anyones feelings' and finally took back our own country we would be much better off!

I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN A GODLESS COUNTRY!!!!

its very sad actually and cant believe this is going on. Maybe we should start a petition to make schools do it again. Like i said, when i was younger, there were kids who stepped out of the classroom, NOBODY was forced to say it. What is the big deal if they do that. Only in the USA will people give up their own traditions, its sad. I think some schools also cant have x-mas stuff up either, i know i saw this somewhere. SOME schools have done this but its not something that many schools have done yet but who knows it might be done at more schools in the near future.

This actually really bothers me as well, living in California which is way too liberal of a state for me and even for many liberals i know!, also banned the pledge in the majority of our schools. I dont get it, If its someones personal belief that they don't want to say the pledge of allegiance, so be it no one will force it upon you, but to outlaw it in schools for everyone is just not right! Thank god DH and I agree that when we have kids they will not be going to school in california, we are moving! lol This is only the tip of the iceberg though, the education system here is way too bias and liberal.

Wow, I had no idea they have actually enforced this policy at some schools..I heard it was up on the table to remove the words 'one nation under God' But I didn't actually realize that some schools had stopped saying it altogether. People taking their interpretations to extremes has allowed America to sort of shot themselves in the foot. It's so sad and disheartening, b/c it's actually good intentions for freedom of speech and religion. I happen to be a British citizen but I've lived in the US most of my life and I say the Pledge of Allegiance as this is the country I truly call home.

Its crazy. I didnt think it was so bad that teachers can get fired for it too. Thats insane!

It just bothers me bc who are they to pick and choose what we want our children to learn? Whats next..... removing 'In God we Trust' from the dollar bills? Or swearing on a Bible in court? it's frustrating how certain things that are important to so many Americans can get taken out to be 'politically correct'

Oh I definitely wouldn't doubt it...but when does it stop, when has it been taken too far, are we going to stop singing the national anthem at professional sporting events b/c someone might be offended?

I honestly had no idea this was going on...thank you ladies for making me aware

MANY public schools cannot even say Merry Christmas to students because it may offend non-christian students. Someone I know said one of her fellow teachers was fired for handing out little angels she made as a holiday gift to the students....we're talking a 2nd graders who had atheist parents who were angry that the teacher gave a religious item out to the students....to me- that's just terrible! Like seriously- that is NO reason to lose your job!!!

WOW are they not going to do x-mas things I HATE hearing these things. What is wrong with people. If there is an issue why dont they do something for every religion. In school they would have things for the jewish holidays, we would learn about kwanzaa. Instead of banning anything we just had a mixture of everything and learned about all of them.

wow a teacher made a gift for all her students, what a horrible teacher they are nuts. Yeah lets fire teachers who care about their students to take the time to do something for them. Then they wonder why out public school system is messed up. Glad to see they are pushing all these rules, how about fighting for better books, more funding, fighting about causes such as over-populated schools. No the big issue is the pledge of allegiance and x-mas
