What is your 'what not to wear, or what not to do' advice

I was watching something so curious what others have to say.
What are trends you hate, or what tips do you have regarding clothes, hair or make up.
My biggest thing is that alot of people buy things simply because it looks good or is trendy at the moment and don't pay as much attention to the fact that maybe it's not the right look for them. When I go shopping the #1 thing i look for is how it fits me, don't care how gorgeous something is and don't care how much I want it or how trendy it is, if it doesnt flatter me then I won't buy it. So when going through the store I basically go through all the clothes and look for specific fits. I'll go through it and say nope wrong neckline won't fit me right, bad fit of jeans on me so nope, and so on. It drives DH nuts bc he will point out something he likes and although I'll love it, i say nope doesn't fit my body type. There are some things I would LOVE to wear but just don't. Some will just buy a trend just to buy it. I am very big on what bras make you look best, what style pants is best for your body type, if youre short what type of dresses and pants to wear and that sort of stuff. Thats why i love those 2 english ladies who do the 'what not to wear' England version. They are always on Oprah and this is what they focus on and tips they give.
One tip alot of stylists and make up artists give that I do agree with is DONT match your eye make up to your clothes. One time Jay manuel came to where I was working and the first thing he did was tell the girl i was working with 'oh no sweetie you never match your eye make up and clothes this way' she had a pink dress on and had on alot of pink eye shadow. I felt bad bc he said to her face it was tacky. But for example if you're wearing a blue dress, not into wearing blue eye make up to match it or green dress and all green make up. They say to find a color that compliments it but not to match it exactly and be dress all in one color.

Oh yes the whole 'rich' area/mall trend of LI is uggs and sweats - SORRY you look dumb in that outfit with your LV bag. Its like polishing a turd or something.
The BP went dress shopping for the TWOTY and I was a half hour early and waiting and every girl that came in wore a LV or a Burberry bag with their Velour sweats and uggs and a scarf. Is that what winter dress down chic is? Cause its icky to me.
what i dont get is that they are trying to be fashionable and trendy ok but at the same time, you are just wearing what every other single person is wearing. not really fashion forward if 90% of the people in the mall look just like you.

My favorite fashion icon I think is Faith Hill. She is just so classy! I also love Reese Witherspoons style. I def like the classic look. Trendy is fun sometimes for certain events, but over all I just like classic pieces.
i was afraid to mention the Uggs bc i know ALOT of girls wear it and didn't want to offend people, but yeah i dont like them either. ANd its funny but last week when dh and i went shopping we brought this up, and we bring it up almost everytime we go shopping. But why do 90% of girls who go shopping wear sweatpants with uggs. Its like the national shopping outfit. I see it all the time and its like ok you are wearing the same outfit as almost every girl here.
sorry if I offended anyone! I think uggs are a great brand of winter boots!!! But I think its insane to wear them when it is not winter! They are a wool lined boot! Arn't you sweating in 90 degree heat wearing them? I think thats just nasty! JMHO! And its my biggest pet peeve ever next to xmas stuff being out before thanksgiving and especially Halloween! If its warm enough to wear a mini skirt, then its not the right time to wear a pair of winter boots!!!
And ya a lot of people do shop in that outfit! Haha!!

actually what i heard about uggs is that they are good for cold and warm weather. The sheepskin or whatever is inside actually keeps your feet cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The person who made ugg boots started it as surf wear or something like that. I remember seeing this whole thing about it on tv. But yeah i wouldnt be able to.

I love Anne Hathaway and I have to say i love Jennifer Lopez. Even when she is very daring with hwr outfits, that woman always looks like a million bucks. She knows what works for her and is not afraid to flaunt it. I find her style, especially in recent years, to be a style I try to emulate.
Reese Witherspoon also always does the red carpet look beautifully.
LOVE Anne's dress.
I agree- I love them!!! Faith is still my favorite, but I do love these ladies style! I also love Carrie Underwood I have decided! I dunno if I could pull of her country girl style, but I think she does it well!

OMG dh and I were at the roosevelt field mall last weekend and he noticed the same thing, its like a uniform sweat pants, hoodie and the uggs

For funkier styles, I always liked Cameron Diaz.
i like reese too. Penelope cruz, i do like her style but i just don't think she is pretty.

Ya Eva Mendes is goergous!! And she does dress well! And I agree that scarlet looks great and can really wear a dress well! She has a very old hollywood thing going for her thats just timeless. I want a stylist to dress me!!!

Yeah i would like to look like Eva for just 1 day at least hahaha.
Yeah she does the finger waves alot and that whole look just really goes with her face and everything perfectly. Plus she is another one who has an amazing body. She has an hour glass figure

Debra did not look as skinny as she did back in the day!!!!! I think hanging with Rachel Zoe definitely changed her look.

I totally agree about the black and brown combo, or even navy and black! I will never wear those! DH actually bought me a pair of pants last year for Xmas and I wore them with black shoes for months b/c I thought they were black - turns out that they were a very dark navy!!! Now I only wear them with my navy shoes!
Another thing, which seems like common sense but clearly not to some... there's a girl who works in the bagel store I go to every morning. She's like 19 and she has a cute figure but she definitely has a belly (I am actually not sure if she could be prego, but I don't think so...)... anyway, everyday I go in there, and she is showing at LEAST 6 inches of her skin between the bottom of her shirts and top of her pants, and her whole belly sticks out! What the heck is she thinking?! I dunno... some people!
That girl has a muffin top and she should not be showing her stuff to everyone....especially if they are trying to order food.

I wear clear straps but i also CANT wear strapless bras, none of them do the trick. I am a 36D and need the support of straps, otherwise with a strapless my boobs can look horrible, and always pulling it up. Ive tried many but never can wear them. For me clear straps were the GREATEST invention. Before the clear straps there were LOTS of things i was never able to wear and was so sad that i couldn't wear certain shirts and dresses and only now am i able to wear some of them since i can do the clear strap. If its a strapless shirt then i wouldn't wear clear straps with it, well i wouldnt wear a strapless shirt period lol. Its really hard when most things you are not able to wear

in this pic i am wearing a clear strap and i bet most of you cant tell that i am wearing a clear strap bra. You just have to know how to wear it. If it wasnt for a clearstrap bra then I would've NEVER been able to wear this dress or any dress with this type of strap
