What is your 'what not to wear, or what not to do' advice
Original post by Espo22
I was watching something so curious what others have to say.
What are trends you hate, or what tips do you have regarding clothes, hair or make up.
My biggest thing is that alot of people buy things simply because it looks good or is trendy at the moment and don't pay as much attention to the fact that maybe it's not the right look for them. When I go shopping the #1 thing i look for is how it fits me, don't care how gorgeous something is and don't care how much I want it or how trendy it is, if it doesnt flatter me then I won't buy it. So when going through the store I basically go through all the clothes and look for specific fits. I'll go through it and say nope wrong neckline won't fit me right, bad fit of jeans on me so nope, and so on. It drives DH nuts bc he will point out something he likes and although I'll love it, i say nope doesn't fit my body type. There are some things I would LOVE to wear but just don't. Some will just buy a trend just to buy it. I am very big on what bras make you look best, what style pants is best for your body type, if youre short what type of dresses and pants to wear and that sort of stuff. Thats why i love those 2 english ladies who do the 'what not to wear' England version. They are always on Oprah and this is what they focus on and tips they give.
One tip alot of stylists and make up artists give that I do agree with is DONT match your eye make up to your clothes. One time Jay manuel came to where I was working and the first thing he did was tell the girl i was working with 'oh no sweetie you never match your eye make up and clothes this way' she had a pink dress on and had on alot of pink eye shadow. I felt bad bc he said to her face it was tacky. But for example if you're wearing a blue dress, not into wearing blue eye make up to match it or green dress and all green make up. They say to find a color that compliments it but not to match it exactly and be dress all in one color.

i think i kind of stick to what i feel good in.. i have my own personal style i guess you could say..lol. I like hats..and quirky things sometimes... and ppl know it's my personality. I'm not too big on what's HOT right now. I really like the old classic styles from the 40s when people really knew how to dress up!! Me and My girls keep saying we wanna have a dinner party or holiday party where we can really do it up!!! But really to me it's not about what's in... it's about how i feel and my mood. Every now and then something comes in style or 'Back' in style that i fall for... but it's usually because i liked it to begin with..
on thing i could never really get into was the palazzo style shorts. i like palazzo style pants..but i could never get into the shorts..well the knee length ones anyways. but that's just a personal preference.

I LOVE a 40's or 50's style look. The dresses were just the best then

Best advice i could EVER give is to find a good tailor! Its not expensive to have items fixed so they fit you perfectly and look like they were made for you. And when you buy dress pants that have pockets, consider having them removed-- the pants fit soooo much better! Another thing is to watch your hemlines on both skirts and pants. Some skirt lengths can make you look frumpy and if your pants aren't the right length for the shoes you're wearing, it can destroy a whole outfit. Also, its soooo important to invest in good undergarments. The wrong bra or panty can make you look awful. Alot of women wear the wrong size bra so its a great idea to be fitted by a professional.
As far as makeup goes, my biggest pet peeve is when a girl wears the wrong color foundation and doesn't blend it in by her jawline and you can see a clear line where the makeup ends. I just want to say to her 'blend, damn it!!'

OOO I forgot about those hideous things. Unless you are tall and thin like a model, it does not look good on anyone

I LOVE Clinton and Stacy!! I see so many people with beautiful clothes that could look sooo much better and more flattering if they had them tailored. And people need to get over the size that they wear!! If it looks good, then the size shouldn't matter. Its not like someone is going to look at the tag in your pants or top to see what size it is

good point yeah I definitely should think more about a tailor. Sometimes I find pants that are just too long on me and dont want to deal with it so don't get it lol. Its stupid but have to get over that

Ok I have a few....
1 - I hate muffin tops also....and in general when chunky girls wear tight clothes and you see their rolls. Gross
2- I also hate when people where tight ankle skinny jeans when they shouldnt be.
3 - LASTLY - I have not been able to jump on this band wagon yet. I really dont like Coach, Dooney, Louis Bags or anything with C's or D's all over it. Everyone fricken has them and I cant understand why so many people spend hundreds of dollars to have a bag that A) is made out of vinyl and b) looks exactly like everyone elses bag and c) some people have good knock offs and it looks the real thing! If I am going to spend alot of $$ on a bag, I want one that is different and that no one has! Anyway - I am sure people have their reasons, just like I have my reasons to buy $250 pair of jeans but I just cant jump on the coach bag bandwagon!

LOL i actually dont like Coach, I know alot of ppl love them but I don't. However I am guilty of LV bags lol but they dont make vinyl.
Its so funny bc it is about everyone having their own reasons. I just cant get into buying very expensive jeans. Its weird bc i'll do it for other things but not jeans. I dont like spending $250 on jeans. One time I bought versace jeans and i have to say they were the best fitting jeans but in general dont buy expensive ones. I got lucky that I knew someone who had a boutique and I would get true religion, sergio valente and other brands like that for free but otherwise i wouldn't have paid for them lol.

yeah i have to agree with the crocs, really don't like them sorry to anyone who has them.
Thats why I refuse to even try on uggs i dont want to see how comfy they are bc dont want to take the chance hahaha. Same happened with flip flops. I used to see girls with them all the time but even when going out to clubs and restaurants though, i HATED it. Yeah I decided to try it and now i LOVE flip flops

I know I am justifying. . . and I know I shouldnt BUT I wear my Uggs under my pants and DH gets me really different ones - not just the regular ones you always see so people are always asking me what they are. Not saying they are exactly 'pretty' but they are definitely different!
And, I can't even begin to describe how comfortable they are! Its like walking in a warm cloud!
The ones I am wearing right now look like this:
but with my jeans over them you just see the bottom part and it looks like a regular shoeLINK

Ok well I know not all their bags are made of leather though....all the ones I see people wearing are the canvas ones. $700 for a canvas bag? I dont think so! JMO! But for jeans....yes I love my jeans...but havent bought any in awhile. Been wearing old ones. I used to just buy buy buy whatever I wanted and charged it, but I changed my ways when I got married :)

I used to hate Uggs when they first came out. 1 year later I bought a pair...love love love them...worth every penny. Then got another pair this year....yumm.
But I do have one complaint about my uggs...will post in another thread.
