I would never do it. My FH is in law enforcement and basically all the men on my side of the family are NYPD or FDNY.I just wouldn't feel right about it.

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
I myself also wanted a September wedding. My brother also passed away 4years ago & his birthday is Sept. 16th so I know to avoid that day & didn't want it on Sept. 11th for it being the 10th anniversary of that. I didn't want my wedding date to conflict with such a day like that. I knew I had to choose from the beginning of Sept. to the end.. We were border line of choosing the last weekend in August..
Sorry... see what the RH can do.. if your able to switch.. ? I also thought the day 9/10/11 was a cool day to get married but got over it bc I wanted my RH & everything in one day

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
granted I didn't live in NY on that day but I don't think it's a bad thing. To me it's like you are celebrating life and how we still move on and live each day to the fullest! I guess the patriotic person in me says party on and show those &^%&%&$ who flew a plane into our home that they can't bring us down! Just my two cents

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
a friend of mine was married on 9/11/10 and though the wedding was beautiful and there was a lot to be happy for that day, i don't think there was anything that could have changed the tone.
and, when i first got the invitation, i have to be honest, at first i was shocked and then i kind of chuckled and said 'they must have gotten a really good deal'
sorry
it's totally up to you though - you know the tone of your guests and your wedding day. i know personally it wouldn't work for my family and friends. but then again, there are other dates throughout the year that wouldn't work for my family and friends because we lost someone special that day or whatever. it's a personal decision IMO.

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
it depends on your family, did the guests youre inviting lose many people?
if they did not, then i think its ok, afterall, it was 10 years ago, not to be forgotten, but also, it cant stand in making plans forever.
i do have respect for everyone that day, but at the same time i dont think it should be a date where nothing happy is allowed to be celebrated. i was going to have m reception that day, but a lot of people couldnt make it, so i made it a few months earlier!

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
that's tough but I personally wouldn't do it on that day. i would go to a wedding if somebody had it on that date but i don't know how some people would feel about it

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
I think people have a little bit of a shock factor when they see the date, but i think unless you know you have friends or family members that would be offended or had a traumatic experience that day i would say to go for it. I had a pretty traumatic experience that day. But on the anniversary i don't sit in my house and cry or anything. Most people go on with there regular lives on this day. If this is your dream place go for it.

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
No, dont bother... give up on your dream hall if its out of your range- Its too soon u know, also the last thing you need is the stress of telling ur family ur wedding date and listening to the BS...
Out of respect and for your own sake id say skip it and look into another hall

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
Most other years, I would say -- it would be 'okay' to have it on 9/11 because it would actually be a great way to bring joy to those on that day.... I also think having a reference or rememberance table would be important and help ease the 'elephant in the room'. However -- this year will be the 10th anniversary, so media coverage will be even more so than usual. It might be even more so at the forefront of everyone's mind. It's a tough call : /

OOO the idea about a donation to the 9/11 memorial as a favor is an AMAZING idea!

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
I think it's actually particularly strange that you're going out of your way to have it that day when your ceremony is not even that day.
To me, I think it's fine, but it is a day when many people will have been re-living all of the footage that morning, and you will have that on your TV for the rest of your life on your anniversary..though i guess it won't actually be your anniversary...

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
Maybe if you were having a low-key afternoon or morning recption but I still think the wound is too new especially since it is an anniversary.
I wouldn't do it, not because I am in morning but, out of respect for the day and those whose lives were lost. As others said, some guests will wonder why you chose to pick that date and if it was purley to save the money. Not sure if 9/11 is something you want to use to get a bargain.

I couldn't do it. My FH is a member of FDNY and, miraculously, a 9/11 survivor. I think you have to do what is best for you, but so many New Yorkers' lives have been impacted by the tragedy. It is a tricky situation. :(

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
I agree with many girls, I personally wouldn't have it. I had always thought of having a September wedding but when I realized I would be getting married 9/2011 (9/11) I hated the idea. I moved the wedding to early October and couldn't be happier.
The words 9/11 just give me shivers. Some of your guest won't think twice, but others will.
Like someone else said, this is going to the the 10-year anniversary, so lots of people will be attending memorials etc.

Re: 9/11/11 Reception
i wouldn't do it, imo. maybe, years from now when its not so much in recent history, it will be easier to choose that date for a wedding.
may i ask though, how come you are doing your wedding ceremony on a saturday and your RH on a Sunday?
