A coworker just came back from her honeymoon...

Original post by PoppedInASnap

And was crying on the phone. I saw her later on and said Whats the matter? Are you okay? And she said 'I spent too much on my wedding'

So she proceeded to tell me about all the extras that they had....

And told me that between her and her parents they spent roughly 250,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost died when she told me that her dress alone was 42,000 dollars...

I felt so bad because she was a mess but at the same time I wondered 'Why put yourself into debt like that?'

Anyone afraid that will happen to them? I get worried sometimes myself....

Well I feel bad for your coworker, but I dont understand why she was crying .. I mean nobody asked her to spend 42k on a dress ... really, that is insane, well will she ever wear it again and my whole wedding wont even be the price of her dress I couldnt overspend if I wanted too because there is nowhere to get the money from!

She owes her parents a tremendous amount of money now!

She also said she had to keep up with her other family members.. her parents wouldnt let her get a dj (orchestra only) and other things. I jsut think its crazy how much someone can influence someone elses wedding choices...esp THAT MUCH over!

Well I love my family and all, but if they wanted an orchestra and they should pay for it and not have this girl pay her back. She should have said no if she wanted a DJ. I would never put myself in debt for a wedding esp from my parents, who dont have that kind of money anyway, so thats why I cant go over budget Seriously, I do think its silly to spend that much esp if you dont even have it to spend

Exactly..
And just because your parents have the money doesnt mean you do! Her husband is still in school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Her husband is still in school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am still processesing this and have no response! So how did they pay for it????

In addition, doe she realize she potentially ruined her marriage already by putting themselves in debt from the getgo? money is the #1 issue in fights and prob why lots of people end up in divorce... poor girl...

But can someone REALLY get that far away from reality? So much so that their THAT much in debt? Her wedding was planned within 6 months of the engagement, so i could understand it was all rushed...but can you really become that unfocused?

boo hoo! The more I think about it....honestly I think she is just complaining for attention and for a reason to tell people how much everything cost!

we've set a buget and refuse to go over it. i'm not including my dress in the budget since it's a gift from my sister and this way i can budget a few more extras in.

but that's ridiculous, if you don't have it, don't spend it. we've been to a few REALLY nice weddings where they did spend over 100K but they had the money and in the end they regretted it as well.

regretted it big time. one of them is our best man and he always tells us to take that money and just travel the world instead of having a wedding. he's probably right but we're not spending anything near what he dropped.

Her dress is more than my wedding too!! How do you even spend 42k on a dress? was it made out of gold? geez. That stinks for them and I feel bad for her, but they had to know at some point it was getting out of control... (i would think).

I personally dont even want to spend what we are on this wedding, I would rather do something with it or put it towards a nicer house but it makes our parents happy.

thats just crazy. Im not worried at all. We never really set a budget but we know what we have & excatly what we want & want to spend. If we go over a little its still not a big deal. I would never go into debt for a wedding. And i never use credit cards!!!

That is completely crazy! I mean, putting yourself like 5K in debt is one thing, since you'll be able to pay it off in about a few months. But 250K?? Are you kidding me?? Was it REALY worth it?!?! Geez... Makes me realize that I really AM budgeting pretty well! lol
